ADULTHOOD NA SCAM: I Said What I Said.

Adulthood na scam.😩

Yes, I said so.

Before you come for me, hear me out. 😂

When I was younger ehn, I really didn't know much to do with my life. I could tell you I wanted to be an accountant today and the next day, I'd switch to wanting to become a doctor.

And I didn't mind much about my confusion then because I believed I was still younger and that when I would become an adult, I'd suddenly know what to do, where to be and you know, how things should be.

I don't know why, but I genuinely thought that once I entered my twenties, something would just... click. 🤧

I genuinely thought I'd have life figured out by now.

Not everything, obviously. But at least the important things.

I thought I'd know exactly what I wanted to do. I'd have a clear plan for the next five or ten years. I'd be making good money, doing work I love, planning a wedding and walking confidently in my purpose.

I thought I'd have answers.

But instead... I have questions.😩

A lot of them.

And it's not like I'm 'directionless' or anything. It's just... I genuinely thought everything would somehow fall into place the moment I became an adult. Like something would just click but alas, the only thing that has changed since I became an adult...is my age. (I hoped I'd grow taller and have an adult body but alas, my hopes were shattered 😭).

And this is the part of adulthood I feel like nobody talks enough about.

There's this silent pressure that once you're an adult, you're supposed to know what you're doing. Like everyone else received a manual and somehow yours got lost in transit.

So you start comparing.

You see people building businesses. Getting jobs. Having partners. Travelling. Winning awards. And you're there wondering if you're missing something.

If you're late.

If you should have achieved more by now.

I mean, I've caught myself thinking, "I should have this figured out by now."

But... should I really?

Who made that rule?

The more I think about it, the more I realize I've been expecting too much from myself. (Not that I should expect less sha.😂)

But like, I put so much pressure on myself.

Pressure to figure everything out.

Pressure to get there quickly.

Pressure to not "waste" my twenties.

And honestly? It's exhausting. (And I'm only 21!!!)

The truth is, I don't even know where I got this idea from.

Maybe it's social media.

Maybe it's seeing people my age doing amazing things.

Maybe it's because growing up looked so easy when I was younger.

Whatever it is, I somehow convinced myself that adulthood was supposed to come with certainty. Like I'd suddenly know exactly where I was going.

Spoiler alert: it doesn't. 😂

Lately though, I've been reminding myself of something so simple that I don't know why it took me this long to accept it.

I'm still growing.

That's it.

I'm still growing.

Why was I expecting myself to have all the answers already? Why was I acting like life is some exam I'm supposed to finish before I turn thirty?

Who even decided that?

Why am I in such a hurry?

I'm literally still developing the beautiful potential God has given me.

Still learning to trust God.

Still asking God, "Okay... what's next?"

And maybe that's what this season is for.

Why am I even rushing the process?

These days, I'm trying to do something different.

Instead of stressing over the next ten years, I'm learning to focus on the next step.

Just the next one.

Just what to do tomorrow.

Tomorrow will become today eventually.

And when it does, I trust God will give me the grace for that day too.

I'm beginning to understand that following God isn't about having the whole map. It's about trusting the One who does.

But yes, I still dream.

I still write down goals.

I still have things I'm praying for.

I still work towards achieving my goals.

But I'm no longer trying to carry the weight of knowing everything. That burden was never mine to begin with.

I've realised I don't have to know the whole journey before taking the next step.

God does.

And that's enough for me.

So, I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're around my age and you feel like you're running out of time...

You're probably not.

Maybe you're just growing.

And growing isn't something you rush.

So yes...

Adulthood na scam.

Not because adulthood is terrible.

But because I believed it would come with certainty.

It doesn't.

It comes with growth instead.

It comes with mistakes.

It comes with days you feel like you know exactly what you're doing, and days you wonder if you're doing anything right at all.

And maybe that's okay.

Maybe growing up isn't about 'arriving'.

Maybe it's about becoming. One step at a time.

Maybe God never expected me to have everything figured out. Maybe He just wants me to trust Him enough to take the next step.

So if you've been putting pressure on yourself because you feel like you should know exactly where your life is headed...

This is your reminder.

Breathe.

You don't need to have your whole life figured out today.

Just don't stop growing.

Don't stop trusting God.

And don't forget to enjoy the journey while you're at it.

Maybe adulthood isn't the scam after all.

Maybe the real scam was believing we'd have all the answers the moment we got here.
