THE HUMILITY TRAP

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us started mixing up humility with smallness.

We learned to think that being humble means never mentioning our strengths, brushing off what we've done, downplaying our achievements, saying no to opportunities, and shrinking ourselves so everyone else feels okay and comfortable.

But that isn't really humility.

That's usually just insecurity trying to mask itself as humility.

Real humility isn't pretending you have nothing to give when you actually have something to give. It's not saying no to opportunities you're prepared for.

It's knowing what you've been given, and choosing not to make everything about you.

Playing small usually comes from a different place. From fear.

Fear of being misunderstood.

Fear of seeming proud.

Fear of being judged.

Fear of standing out.

So we hide.

We shrink.

We say sorry before we even speak.

We pass on chances we're actually ready for.

We stay quiet when our voice could help someone.

We downplay our potentials and achievements.

And then we call it humility.

But think about this for a moment.

What if Daniel had hidden his excellence because he didn't want to look proud?

What if Esther had stayed back because she wanted to be "humble"?

What if David had walked away from Goliath because he didn't want anyone to think too much of him?

Humility isn't supposed to make you appear smaller or insignificant.

Playing small doesn't honour God either.

We don't honour God by burying the gifts He's given us.

We honour Him by caring for them and using them well.

So let's stop confusing humility with disappearing.

You don't need to shout to be seen.

You just need to be here. Real. Willing. Unafraid. Available. And present in the space God has called you into.
