<p>The recent cold banter between Engineering and Medical students has been genuinely entertaining to watch, and I'll admit, it's stirred up a bit of envy on my end for the engineering side.</p><p><br/></p><p>Back in A-Levels, I got a taste of electronic circuits, basic kinematics, and thermodynamics, and I couldn't help but wonder how applicable these concepts really were outside the classroom. Turns out: very.</p><p><br/></p><p>The biological sciences, by contrast, can feel more abstract in daily conversation. More often than not, you find yourself explaining a concept without much depth, because the depth is buried under years of study, not something you can casually sketch out. An engineering student, on the other hand, could probably rough out a paragraph on how the heart or brain functions and get the gist right. But try handing a consultant professor of medicine a Kirchhoff's voltage and current law problem, loop rules, junction rules, the works. Maybe they'd take a swing at it. Most likely, they wouldn't.</p><p><br/></p><p>That asymmetry says something. In my honest opinion, medicine wouldn't have gotten nearly as far without engineering's input, from the electronics behind ECGs and MRI machines to the fluid dynamics that inform how we understand blood flow. Engineering doesn't just support medicine from the outside; it's woven into how modern medicine actually works.</p><p><br/></p><p>So maybe the banter is playful, but the underlying point isn't entirely a joke.</p>
