With the recurring flight delay announcements coming off from the speaker close to my desk, and passengers multiplying, I got into a friendly argument with one of the waiting passengers at the airport.. quite an elderly man. Started off at assisting him with his phone then few talks on how work was going when suddenly he dropped this statement: “Gen Z is just an age group everyone passes through.”

That stopped me.

In my head, Gen Z was a generation, like Millennials.. They are people born in a specific window with shared culture, technology, and attitude. But from his point of view, “Gen Z” sounded more like “teenage years”.. a phase every individual grows out of.

His point being teenagers are impulsive and act without thinking of the consequences until later in life around their twenties that they realise they have responsibilities and goals to achieve..

Telling him I was part of the Gen Z he claims are impulsive had him disagreeing with me.. said I didn't talk like one..

Seriously?!!

Never knew there was a certain way we talk.. I personally think that yes, every one under the Gen Z category has a certain way of behaviour that's quite linked one way or another, but at the end of the day, we are our own individual person. We know what we want, just that getting to it could be the task or challenge.. whichever one.

But as the conversation went on, I started seeing his reasons.. from his own point of view..

From his thoughts I would say he believes the current teenagers are Gen Z because he said from 12 to 19.. Yes that age group is under the same category but that's not where it ends.. I checked later, turns out Gen Z spans more years than just 12 to 19.. some of us are already well past 19 truth be told.

The argument stayed friendly, but it got me thinking..

Is Gen Z really every individual around teenage age?

Or is it a distinct generation with its own markers, the way Millennial is?

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
