And despite being that much younger than me, nothing about him felt immature.

The bass in his voice reverberated through me whenever he spoke, resurrecting things I thought had died inside me decades ago.

He traced the wrinkles on my body as if charting a map to my heart.

When he held my aging, weathered frame with such deliberate care, I felt treasured.

How could something so wrong feel so right?

It was wrong, I know.

I never should have invited him into my bed that night.

But it was the day I was born, I wanted to feel special. And he made me feel special.

Yet, what is not meant to be will never last, you know? No matter how hard you hold on.

My husband came home early from work that night. He had lied; he said he wouldn't be back until the next morning.

He fought.

He fought hard to save his life.

But my husband fought even harder to end it.

And he did.

My husband may have gone to prison for killing him, but I know I am the one who truly took his life.

I am older now, and my time on this earth is growing short.

I know I am going to hell, but I really cannot wait to see my son again.
