Love Shouldn’t Feel Like This

Love Hurts

No, I’m not writing this from my perspective… even though, somehow, I’m living through the same thing.

Love has a way of tying you to a person, even when you no longer want to be tied to them. Not because they’re good for you, but because they’ve become part of your routine. You can’t imagine what life looks like without them.

Yes, you lived before you met them.

But somehow, you can’t explain how you’re supposed to do that again.

The early morning texts and calls.

The way they know your favorite coffee and drop it off on their way to work.

The late evening strolls.

The way they listened to you rant about the project that was stressing you out.

They’ve become so woven into your life that even the people around you would notice the emptiness if they left.

Deep down, you know they’re not right for you.

You know they’re hurting you.

But somehow, the pain of staying feels more bearable than the heartbreak of leaving.

So you do the one thing you swore you never would.

You stay.

You drown in silence.

Your mental health?

Shattered.

And the most frustrating part is that you can’t even tell anyone. No one wants to hear another complaint about “that man” every other day.

They’ll tell you to leave.

And the truth is… you know you’re meant to.

But how?

How do you walk away from someone who has quietly become part of your everyday life?

It feels like starting over.

Except this time, you’re starting over alone.

This time, someone else will ask you your favorite color.

This time, you’ll have to tell your story all over again.

This time, you’ll have to learn someone new while trying to unlearn someone you never thought you’d lose.

Love shouldn’t feel like losing yourself just to avoid losing someone else.
