Jack was a friend of mine. A devoted Christian who didn't play with church activities.

And as a result, everyone called him “Pastor”

One faithful day, Jack invited me to the house fellowship which was gonna take place in his pastor’s house.

“Ola I want to formally invite you to the house fellowship at my pastor's place.” He continued, “ It's gonna be a power and fire pack that you cannot afford to miss.”

I looked at him straight in the eyes and I sighed. Jack had invited me to countless Church programs and I hadn't honoured even one of his invitations.

Within a second, I already decided to honour his invitation this time.

“What time?”I asked

“2:00pm.” He continued “I will come call you when it's time”

He turned and walked away.

“Pastor!Pastor” Someone shouted.

“May God bless you,” he replied.

I closed my eyes slightly. My fingers were thumping my nose bridge, thinking about my schedule. I had a lecture by 4pm but I believed that the fellowship would end before my lecture.

“Brother Jack, welcome” The pastor greeted him with a smiling face.

“Thank you, sir,” he bent slightly.

‘How are you?”

“Fine sir” he continued “Daddy, this is bro Ola.”

The pastor's focus moved in my direction. He stretched his hand and we shaked firmly.

“Welcome, brother Ola”

I bent my head slightly as he tapped my my shoulder

“We are happy to have you among us”

“Thank you sir,” I responded.

Soon, other members entered the sitting room.

“Bro Taiwo, Good afternoon”

“Wow! Jesus is taking care of you”

Pleasantries and compliments were flying around.

A moment later, the program started with praise and worship.

After that, we started praying.

No prayer points.

Nothing

“Everyone should start speaking in spirit,” The pastor announced.

Instantly, they started speaking in strange language.

“Acapa chalikai flapato maga locious”

My eyes were widened, as I moved it from one face to another.

My eyes met with the pastor and it was then he discovered that I wasn't speaking in tongue.

“In Jesus name we prayed.”

Silence…..

He moved close to me and held my hands.

“Bro Ola, you are not praying, not speaking in tongues?” He asked.

I grinned “Yes”

“Chi ba leke shekke de le papa,” a whisper filled the atmosphere.

“Are you ready to receive the spirit of speaking in tongues?” He asked softly

I swallowed hard

“Yes, Sir,” I answered.

“Be on your knees” he commanded me

They held one another's hands, forming a circle around me.

“Let's invoke the spirit. Our brother Ola must speak the language of the realm,” The pastor announced.

Their eyes were shut, voices collided. Tongues waged in spiritual languages.

Nothing happened to me, instead I was looking at their performances, waiting for them to finish so that I could go set for the lecture.

10 mins to 20 mins, 20 mins to 30, 30mins to 1hr

Yet nothing, except my knees that were hurting and my throat was dried.

I glanced at my wrist watch

“3:30pm”

I raised my head to look at their faces.

“ Chaikriminboto kalepadoski.”

“Speak the language of the spirit I command.”

Not tired. Not relenting. Determined.

It was clear to me that these people were not ready to let go of me unless I encountered the spirit.

I glanced at my watch again

“3:35.”

I sighed and my chest flared.

At this time, the only things on my mind was “Home and lecture.”

I decided to play along

“Kabashiodo crato badosky shalaba paypayappayayga,” I screamed at the top of my voice

Immediately, the room fell silent.

The pastor's eyes widened.

"Glory!" he shouted.

"Amen!" everyone responded.

The sister opposite me burst into tears.

"I can feel the fire!" she cried.

Another brother jumped to his feet.

"Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Heaven has opened!"

Before I could explain myself, the pastor pulled me up and hugged me tightly.

"Our brother has broken through!"

The members surrounded me with congratulations.

"Brother Ola, the tongue was powerful."

"It sounded ancient."

"No, no, no," another interrupted. "That is not an ordinary tongue. That's a higher realm."

I forced a smile.

"Thank you."

The pastor placed both hands on my shoulders.

"Brother Ola, what were you saying in the Spirit?"

I froze.

How was I supposed to know?

I quickly closed my eyes and spoke slowly.

"The interpretation is... victory."

The room exploded.

"Amen!"

"Power!"

"Fire!"

Someone genufkected

The pastor wiped tears from his eyes.

"God has used our brother mightily today."

I glanced at my wristwatch.

3:40 p.m.

Finally,

I picked up my bag.

"Pastor, I have a lecture."

"Go, my son," he replied. "And continue speaking that tongue wherever you find yourself."

I nodded.

As I stepped out of the compound, I whispered to myself,

"Kabashiodo crato badosky..."

Then I stopped.

I had completely forgotten the rest.

@Olarewaju
