<p>"Pingg!!!!"</p><p>The notification came in; it was a text from our class representative. A lecturer had requested that all the students who took his course be present at his office tomorrow to verify their results. Mind you, OAU had gone on a three-week strike and most students hadn’t resumed back.</p><p>”Come yourself 10am tomorrow morning to verify your results and for it to be computed, or you’ll fail,” he said.</p><p>I left my hostel immediately it was ten o’clock. Boarded a bus to SUB, made my way to the faculty and went straight to his office, i saw people standing outside. I was scared at first. I took off my cap and glasses, unplugged my earpiece, and asked those who were outside what had happened. They said nothing—that they had checked theirs, but they didn’t know if they could check for others. Not long after, a coursemate came stumbling outside saying the lecturer had sent him out because he didn’t comb his hair. So, I kept my things in my bag and went in.</p><p>Little did I know, there was a trap ahead.</p><p>I became fragile. I cajoled myself, became shaky. I wasn’t the only one in the room, but I felt his stare.</p><p>Then he asked, "Which village are u from?"</p><p>I answered, fidgeting. It wasn’t obvious, but I felt it within me.</p><p>He asked again, "Have you ever been there?"</p><p>If I knew, I would have said yes, but rather I chose to speak the truth. I said, "No."</p><p>His mood didn’t change, but his voice sat up. He said, "Call your dad or your mum, let me speak to them. Your dad in particular he has failed tradition, and if they don’t pick, I won’t attend to you and you’ll fail this course."</p><p>The word FAIL rang like a bell, echoing loudly in my head. I called my dad—his phone was switched off. I called my mum. The first time, there was no response. I called again, and this time, she answered. Terrified, I handed the phone over to him and he said….</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
