<p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>Part I: The Boy in the Last Seat</p><p><br/></p><p>Everyone in Briar Hill knew Evelyn Hart.</p><p><br/></p><p>Quiet.</p><p><br/></p><p>Polite.</p><p><br/></p><p>Always smiling.</p><p><br/></p><p>Always alone.</p><p><br/></p><p>Except:</p><p><br/></p><p>She insisted she wasn't.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Silas is coming too," she would say.</p><p><br/></p><p>Or:</p><p><br/></p><p>"I already told Silas."</p><p><br/></p><p>Or even:</p><p><br/></p><p>"Silas hates thunderstorms."</p><p><br/></p><p>People simply assumed Silas attended another school.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody questioned it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nobody, until senior year.</p><p><br/></p><p>It began on a rainy Monday.</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn entered Literature class and placed her bag beside the empty seat near the window.</p><p><br/></p><p>She smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Morning, Silas."</p><p><br/></p><p>A few students exchanged glances.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mrs. Monroe frowned.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Evelyn, dear... are you expecting someone?"</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn blinked.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Silas. He sits here every day."</p><p><br/></p><p>Silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>The teacher looked genuinely confused.</p><p><br/></p><p>"There has never been anyone in that seat."</p><p><br/></p><p>The class laughed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn laughed too.</p><p><br/></p><p>It was obviously a joke.</p><p><br/></p><p>It had to be.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because Silas had been her best friend since childhood.</p><p><br/></p><p>He walked her home.</p><p><br/></p><p>Shared secrets.</p><p><br/></p><p>Celebrated birthdays.</p><p><br/></p><p>Protected her from bullies.</p><p><br/></p><p>He knew everything about her.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>That evening, she found him waiting beneath the old oak near her house.</p><p><br/></p><p>Hands in his pockets.</p><p><br/></p><p>Dark hair dripping from the rain.</p><p><br/></p><p>Grey eyes fixed entirely on her.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They're pretending again," Evelyn said.</p><p><br/></p><p>Silas smiled.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They don't matter."</p><p><br/></p><p>His voice was soft.</p><p><br/></p><p>Almost gentle.</p><p><br/></p><p>"People forget things."</p><p><br/></p><p>He stepped closer.</p><p><br/></p><p>"But I'll never forget you."</p><p><br/></p><p>A cold breeze passed.</p><p><br/></p><p>For a moment—</p><p><br/></p><p>The streetlights flickered.</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn suddenly realized she had never seen Silas in daylight.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not once.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only evenings.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only shadows.</p><p><br/></p><p>Only rain.</p><p><br/></p><p>She forced a laugh.</p><p><br/></p><p>"You're being weird."</p><p><br/></p><p>Silas stared.</p><p><br/></p><p>Unblinking.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I don't like when you spend time with other people."</p><p><br/></p><p>The smile remained.</p><p><br/></p><p>But something behind it had changed.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Why?"</p><p><br/></p><p>"Because they take pieces of you away from me."</p><p><br/></p><p>The air felt heavier.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They don't know you," he continued.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I do."</p><p><br/></p><p>A whisper.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I know every version of you."</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn shivered.</p><p><br/></p><p>She had known Silas for thirteen years.</p><p><br/></p><p>Yet—</p><p><br/></p><p>She couldn't remember meeting him.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not exactly.</p><p><br/></p><p>There was no first conversation.</p><p><br/></p><p>No memory of becoming friends.</p><p><br/></p><p>He had simply...</p><p><br/></p><p>Always been there.</p><p><br/></p><p>That night, she searched through old photographs.</p><p><br/></p><p>Birthday parties.</p><p><br/></p><p>School trips.</p><p><br/></p><p>Family vacations.</p><p><br/></p><p>She appeared in every picture.</p><p><br/></p><p>Alone.</p><p><br/></p><p>No Silas.</p><p><br/></p><p>Not once.</p><p><br/></p><p>The next day, she asked her mother.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Mom... do you remember Silas?"</p><p><br/></p><p>The color drained from her mother's face.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Who?"</p><p><br/></p><p>"My best friend."</p><p><br/></p><p>Silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>A long, terrible silence.</p><p><br/></p><p>"Evelyn," her mother whispered, "you never had a friend named Silas."</p><p><br/></p><p>The world stopped.</p><p><br/></p><p>"No."</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn laughed nervously.</p><p><br/></p><p>"No, that's impossible."</p><p><br/></p><p>But her mother was crying.</p><p><br/></p><p>"When you were six, after the accident... you kept talking to someone named Silas."</p><p><br/></p><p>She gripped Evelyn's hands.</p><p><br/></p><p>"The doctors said it was grief."</p><p><br/></p><p>"What accident?"</p><p><br/></p><p>Her mother froze.</p><p><br/></p><p>As if she had said something forbidden.</p><p><br/></p><p>Outside the kitchen window—</p><p><br/></p><p>A figure stood beneath the rain.</p><p><br/></p><p>Motionless.</p><p><br/></p><p>Watching.</p><p><br/></p><p>Grey eyes.</p><p><br/></p><p>Dark hair.</p><p><br/></p><p>The same familiar smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>Silas.</p><p><br/></p><p>He lifted one finger.</p><p><br/></p><p>Slowly.</p><p><br/></p><p>Placing it against his lips.</p><p><br/></p><p>Do not tell them.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then he vanished.</p><p><br/></p><p>That night, Evelyn locked every door.</p><p><br/></p><p>Every window.</p><p><br/></p><p>Every curtain.</p><p><br/></p><p>At 2:13 a.m., she woke to a voice beside her bed.</p><p><br/></p><p>Soft.</p><p><br/></p><p>Affectionate.</p><p><br/></p><p>Possessive.</p><p><br/></p><p>"You've been asking too many questions."</p><p><br/></p><p>She couldn't move.</p><p><br/></p><p>Couldn't breathe.</p><p><br/></p><p>The darkness near her closet thickened.</p><p><br/></p><p>And Silas stepped out of it.</p><p><br/></p><p>He looked exactly the same.</p><p><br/></p><p>Except his clothes were soaked with water.</p><p><br/></p><p>And his neck bent at an angle no living person could survive.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I waited for you," he whispered.</p><p><br/></p><p>"All these years."</p><p><br/></p><p>His cold fingers touched her cheek.</p><p><br/></p><p>"They forgot me."</p><p><br/></p><p>A smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>"But you remembered."</p><p><br/></p><p>The bedroom temperature dropped.</p><p><br/></p><p>Frost spread across the walls.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I was alone."</p><p><br/></p><p>Another step.</p><p><br/></p><p>"So very alone."</p><p><br/></p><p>His expression became almost childlike.</p><p><br/></p><p>"And best friends stay together forever, don't they?"</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn tried to scream.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nothing came out.</p><p><br/></p><p>Silas leaned closer.</p><p><br/></p><p>Closer.</p><p><br/></p><p>Until his forehead touched hers.</p><p><br/></p><p>"I don't want to be alone anymore."</p><p><br/></p><p>The smile widened.</p><p><br/></p><p>"If I have to leave..."</p><p><br/></p><p>His voice broke into a whisper.</p><p><br/></p><p>"...you have to come with me."</p><p><br/></p><p>And for the first time in thirteen years—</p><p><br/></p><p>Evelyn realized something horrifying.</p><p><br/></p><p>She had never once seen Silas reflected in a mirror.</p><p><br/></p><p>TO BE CONTINUED...</p>
At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.

Contributor Rankings
The Rankings/Leaderboard shows the Top 20 contributors and engagers on TwoCents a monthly and all-time basis
— as well as the most active colleges (users attending/that attended those colleges)
The all-time contributors ranking is based on the Contributor Score, which is a measure of all the engagement and exposure a contributor's content receives.
The monthly contributors ranking tracks performance of a user's insights for the current month. The monthly and all-time scores are calcuated DIFFERENTLY.
This page also shows the top engagers on an all-time & monthly basis.
