Princess treatment

PRINCESS TREATMENT

“Laila, what is wrong with you? Can’t you go out and look for a job to do? Aren’t you tired of having to wait for only God knows who to come and foot your expenses?”

“Please… please… please, don’t get me started this morning, oo. How do you expect me, a full-time spec, to go and work when I can easily get a man to meet my needs? What kind of *see finish* is that na?

“See, because he broke up with me doesn’t mean that I won’t find someone else. I would even find someone better than he is. Do you even get half of the money I get in a week in a month?” she fired.

“Laila, haba na… You don’t have to sound that way. I am only being concerned for you. The way you throw your time into finding guys to meet your needs, when you know that once a breakup happens, you would be left to fend for yourself. Okay, now that you don’t have any money, what would you do?”

“Simple. Go out there and find a man that would take care of me. I am a baby girl, and I need princess treatment. Abeg, I no come this life to come suffer.”

There is a growing mindset among some young women that being financially provided for by a man is preferable to developing their own independence. They don't work, and they don't care where the money comes from, as long as they get what they want.

And when they are given opportunities to make money, they disappear.

We need to understand the strength that comes from being financially independent.

It is not a crime to have your man spend on you. It is not a crime to enjoy princess treatment. But have you ever bothered to ask yourself:

What if this relationship doesn't last?

Do I have something to fall back on?

Do I have a handiwork of my own that can fetch me money?

Do I have any savings somewhere?

Because, see, the interesting part about being independent is the ability to spend on your partner equally as he spends on you.

Do you know what it feels like to not have someone talking down on you because of money?

Like, you walk into a shop right now and someone tries to make you feel like you can't afford certain things, and then you simply say,

“Please, can I get your POS machine? I'd be making a debit transfer.”

That ego.

That confidence.

That pride that follows being a woman who makes her own money.

There is a certain kind of freedom that comes with knowing you can take care of yourself.

Let's not build our lives around the fear of being seen as a liability. Instead, let's build ourselves to the point where we can bring something to the table too.

We can prove that being a woman does not mean being incapable. We can prove that we can build businesses, dominate in fashion, thrive in crypto, create, lead, and make our own money.

C'mon!

We should be able to walk into a room knowing that we have something of our own. Not because we want to compete with men, but because we deserve to have a life that does not crumble the moment someone stops paying our bills.

Let your man spoil you.

Let him give you princess treatment.

But don't let princess treatment become the only treatment you know.

Have something of your own. Have a skill. Have a business. Have savings. Have something that can keep you standing when the relationship isn't there anymore.

Because there is nothing wrong with being taken care of.

The real problem is having no idea how to take care of yourself.

And honestly?

It wouldn't be bad to give your man some princess treatment too.
