It's Just a Headache....

Nkechi was on her way home from her shop when the headache returned.

She stopped for a second and rubbed her temples.

"Ahh... this headache again."

For three whole days, it had refused to go away. She had swallowed paracetamol more times than she could count, but the relief never lasted..... infact it never came, the headache still persisted.

As she approached the pharmacy across her street, she remembered what Kola had told her the previous day after she had complained of the stubborn headache to him.

"That medicine strong well well. Once you take am like this, the headache go disappear fiam like say e never come."

"Chai..." she muttered to herself. "Wetin be the name of that medicine sef?"

She walked into the pharmacy.

"Good evening,ma." The lady at the counter greeted her with a smile.

"How many I help you?"

"Aunty, abeg. I dey find one medicine buh I don forget the name. One of my friends bin recommend am,he say e strong pass paracetamol wey no gree work. "And pease, make sure you get some rest, stay hydrated, and let a doctor examine you properly before taking another painkiller."

Nkechi looked uncertain, but she agreed.

The next she went to the hospital, and after being examined by the doctor, she finally understood why the headache had refused to go away.

It was never about finding a stronger medicine.

It was about finding the right diagnosis.

🌿 Big Health Lesson:

Most headaches are not serious and often improve with rest, hydration, and appropriate pain relief.

However, please seek medical attention if your headache:

- lasts for several days despite treatment,

- is unusually severe or different from your usual headaches,

- comes with repeated vomiting,

- is associated with blurred vision, weakness, confusion, seizures, or difficulty speaking,

- follows a head injury,

- or occurs with fever and neck stiffness.

In the meantime, get enough rest, drink plenty of water, and avoid taking more painkillers than recommended. If your headache persists or worsens for more than three days, do not keep switching to stronger medicines, visit a healthcare professional for proper evaluation.

Until next time,stay curious,stay healthy.
