<h2><strong>The Strongest Malaria Medicine</strong></h2><p><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">It was barely 9 a.m. when Kola walked into the pharmacy across his street. He has been feeling unwell for almost a week now.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Oga, good morning sir." </p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">He nodded at the pharmacist.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Good morning. How can I help you,sir?"</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"I need the strongest malaria medicine wey una get."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The pharmacist gave a polite smile.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Okay. Have you been tested for malaria?"</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Kola laughed.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Test ke? Aunty, I know my body. Na malaria. I have been feeling hot for almost one week now."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"All right. Let me ask you a few questions first."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Kola interrupted.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Just give me the medicine. And na the strong one I want o"</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The pharmacist reached for the shelf.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"I'll prepare the medication for you."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">As she placed the full pack on the counter, Kola frowned.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Ahn ahn. I no want all this one o. Na half you go give me."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"I'm sorry, sir. We do not dispense half of this medication. You will need the complete course."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Kola clicked his tongue.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Ahn ahn! If I take am for two days now, my body go strong back. Abeg, give me half, my sister."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The pharmacist rested her hands on the counter.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"<a class="tc-blue external-link" href="https://Sir.im" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sir.im </a> so sorry. I know many people think that way, but malaria treatment does not work like that. If you truly have malaria, you need the complete treatment. Taking only part of it may not clear the infection properly."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Kola sighed.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"So you mean say I go buy everything?"</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">"Yes,sir. And before taking it, I would also recommend confirming that it is actually malaria. Not every fever is malaria."</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">For the first time since he entered the pharmacy, Kola was quiet.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Maybe...</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Just maybe...</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Not every fever was malaria after all.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Key takeaway:</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Kola's story is more common than many of us would like to admit.</p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Perhaps at some point, many of us have behaved like Kola.</p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Many people ask for "half" of their malaria medicine because they expect to feel better after a day or two. Others assume every fever is malaria and begin treatment without testing.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The problem is that feeling better is not always the same as being well. Taking incomplete treatment or treating the wrong illness can delay recovery and create bigger health problems.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">Many a times, the strongest medicine is not always the answer.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; ">The right diagnosis is.</p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p><p style="text-align: justify; "><br/></p>
