SUCCESS IS UNPREDICTABLE !!!

Long after the creation of mankind, success has been one of the major and most momentous aims of mankind in all aspects of life. It serves as the great and highest apex that mankind craves in every activity and endeavour. Success also represents a fundamental motivation behind every step, action, and decision taken by mankind. People strive for success in their education, careers, businesses, relationships, and personal aspirations. However, despite careful planning and enormous hard work, success remains unpredictable. There is no universal formula or method that guarantees success. Likewise, there is no fixed timeline for achieving it. While some individuals attain success at an early stage of life, others experience years of struggle before reaching their goals. Success is influenced by a combination of personal effort, opportunity, timing, resilience, and circumstances beyond one’s control. In this sense, success can be seen as the achievement of a desired goal through effort, determination, and perseverance. However, it must be understood that the success we are talking about is unpredictable. One reason success is unpredictable is that it means different things to different people. To some, success is measured by wealth, fame, or professional accomplishment. To others, it is defined by happiness, peace of mind, good health, or the ability to make a positive impact on society. Since individuals have different aspirations, values, and aims, the path to success also differs from one person to another. What success means to one person may not hold the same significance for another. One fact that must be known is that there is no single formula for achieving success. A university graduate who studied Engineering may later end up working in a bank, while someone who graduated with excellent grades in Economics may be working in a local government office. To be factual, hard work, discipline, and education are strong and important keys to success. While these qualities are undoubtedly significant, they do not always guarantee immediate results. Many hardworking and talented individuals struggle for years before achieving recognition, whereas others experience rapid success through unexpected opportunities. This shows that success is not solely determined by effort but also by factors that cannot always be predicted. Opportunity and luck play significant roles in shaping success. Sometimes success comes simply because a person was prepared when an unexpected opportunity arose. A business owner may meet a valuable investor by chance, a student may receive an unexpected scholarship, or an employee may be promoted because they possess the right skills at the right moment. Likewise, meeting the right mentor, discovering a hidden talent, or receiving unexpected support can significantly influence a person’s journey. Such events illustrate and highlight that success often depends not only on preparation but also on circumstances and luck beyond one’s direct control. Failure is another factor that makes success unpredictable. Contrary to popular belief, failure is often an essential part of success rather than its opposite. Most people believe failure is the end of every journey and decision. Rather, it prepares and strengthens one’s mind towards achieving a desired goal. Although failure hurts and weakens one’s emotions, especially when it follows enormous effort and a huge amount of money invested in a particular venture, it also serves as a valuable teacher. Many of the world’s most successful individuals experienced repeated disappointments before achieving greatness. Their failures provided valuable lessons, strengthened their determination, and helped them improve their abilities. Every setback became a staircase that eventually led them to success. This demonstrates that failure should not discourage anyone, as it often prepares individuals for greater achievements in the future. External circumstances also contribute to the unpredictability of success. Economic conditions, political instability, family background, health challenges, natural disasters, and social inequalities can either create opportunities or present significant obstacles that hinder success. Emphasising political instability, the political instability of a country often makes opportunities more difficult to access. Instability creates fear, unrest, unemployment, corruption, and poor infrastructure. When there are limited opportunities in a country, it affects the level of success people can attain. Individuals find it difficult to invest or secure jobs that can provide them with enough income to take care of themselves and their families. These factors are often beyond an individual’s control, making it impossible to predict exactly when or how success will occur. Recently, one of my friends invested a huge amount of money in a business, hoping and expecting a fruitful return at the end of the venture. Unfortunately, he lost the money, and all his efforts proved abortive. He became deeply saddened and regretted investing in the business. When he told me about his failure, I advised and encouraged him not to give up. I reminded him that one must keep trying until one’s dreams and goals are achieved. This experience inspired me to come up with this insight. To sum it up , the unpredictability of success teaches valuable life lessons. It encourages people to remain patient, embrace continuous learning, avoid comparing themselves with others, and maintain hope during difficult times. Since no one can accurately predict the future, individuals should focus on developing themselves, preparing for opportunities, and remaining committed to their goals rather than becoming discouraged by temporary setbacks or delayed results.
