The Power of Consultation: A Key to Success in Ambiguous Situations

In this present time and generation, many people take actions without having in-depth thinking about their repercussions and consequences, neither about their benefits and positive outcomes. This unwillingness to think deeply makes it difficult for them to seek advice and consult others who have once passed through that exact situation and made similar decisions in their lifetime. As a result, they fail woefully in their decisions and actions while others who consult are excelling and progressing. Consultation, therefore, is not a sign of weakness but a sign of wisdom. It is the process of seeking guidance and opinions before taking steps, especially when faced with uncertainty, and it remains one of the surest ways to attain success and find a way out.

Consultation has to do with asking for advice and guidance from people who have knowledge, experience, or a different perspective to yours before making a decision. It is important because it helps to reduce risk. When we talk to others, they can point out dangers and mistakes that we may not have seen on our own ends . It also brings new ideas, because when minds come together, better solutions are born.. Most importantly, consultation provides clarity in moments of confusion. In times when we are not sure of what to do, hearing from others helps to clear our doubts and shows us the right path to follow.

Analogically, a student who is confused about which course to study or a university student thinking of how to overcome school challenges and financial constraints ,business owner thinking of expanding his/her business to a new market or an individual going through a lot of challenges and difficulties in life all need counsel to make the right choice. By consulting, gathering of facts comes in , learning from the experiences of those who have gone ahead emerges , and weighing different options before acting becomes necessary . This saves time, money, and regret. History is full of examples that prove this.

Even great religious and political leaders understood the value of consultation. Prophet Muhammad consulted his companions before going into battles. Leaders like Nelson Mandela and Chief Obasanjo were also known for seeking wide counsel before making important national decisions. Their success was not by chance, but by wisdom and consultation.

However, for consultation to be effective, it must be done properly. We must be careful to seek advice from the right people . those with experience, knowledge, and integrity, and not just those who will tell us what we want to hear . We must also be open-minded enough to accept opinions that may be different from ours. When we consult, we should ask thoughtful questions that will help us see all sides of the matter. At the end of the day, after listening to everyone, the responsibility to make the final decision still rests with us.

Summing it up with the danger of refusing to consult which is very clear. People who act in pride and haste often miss important information and end up repeating mistakes that others have already made. This is why many fail woefully in life while those who take time to seek advice are the ones who continue to progress and excel.

To attain success and avoid regrets, the habit of consultation must be embraced. As the saying goes, “a single broom cannot sweep. No one person has all the answers. True wisdom lies in knowing when to ask.

Can you share a time when someone’s advice saved you from making a big mistake?
