The Algorithm vs. The Art: Shouting Into the Digital Void

Let’s play a game of imagination. Picture this: I spend an entire night hunched over my desk like a gargoyle. My neck is stiff, my fingers are practically bleeding, and I have successfully threaded hundreds of tiny transparent crystals onto a string to create a masterpiece.

I take the perfect aesthetic photo. I write a caption that is pure poetry. I hit "Post."

And then... crickets.

The algorithm looks at my blood, sweat, and tears, and decides, "Hmm, let’s show this to exactly three people, and one of them is Reni’s mother."

Welcome to the ultimate downside of being a student-creative in 2026.

The Ghost Town Effect

There is a unique type of frustration that comes with putting your heart on a digital plate and having nobody show up to eat. It’s demoralizing. It’s unmotivated-inducing. It makes you look at your pliers and your bead trays and think, "Maybe I should just retire and become a full-time professional sleeper."

You start doubting the work. You wonder if the "Ice Princess" collection is actually giving main character or if it's just giving person who has too much free time in Ibadan. The lack of visibility is a silent creativity killer. It’s hard to stay inspired to build an empire when you feel like you’re pitching your products to an empty room at the Tamuno building.

The Delusion That Keeps Us Going

Actual representation of me trying to see where my views went

But being a creative means you have to possess a healthy dose of delusion.

When a post flops, I don’t tell myself my work is bad. Oh, no. I tell myself that the algorithm simply couldn't handle the sheer opulence of my designs. The bots were intimidated by the sparkle. Mark Zuckerberg and the Google lords saw the beads and said, "Wow, this is too high-fashion for the general public, let’s hide it."

Honestly, the only thing keeping my consistency alive right now is the fact that Luffy has been looking for the One Piece for over twenty years and he still sets sail every morning. If he can face the Grand Line with that much optimism, I can face a post with zero engagement.

The Real 'Hustle' Isn't the Making, It’s the Waiting

We talk a lot about the "hustle" of creating, but the real test is surviving the mental dip afterward. It’s trying to stay motivated to make the next thing when the last thing didn’t get the love it deserved.

So, I’m treating this post as a safe space for all of us who are currently being victimized by the internet. Whether you write, paint, bake, or bead...I see ya. The lack of views doesn't mean your art isn't mouth-watering. It just means the internet is ghetto today.

Over to You:

Let’s do a vibe check. Creatives, business owners, or even just people trying to get their WhatsApp status views up, what’s the most demoralizing "flopped post" experience you’ve ever had? How do you force yourself to stay motivated when the numbers are playing games with your mental health?

Drop your rants below. Let’s be unmotivated together so we can get back to the grind tomorrow.

Gomu Gomu no! Algorithmic Breakdown! (Seriously, send likes, my ego needs them...) A Rumpus Ramble episode from your favourite,

~RR

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
