THE GIRL WHO RECEIVED A TEXT FROM HER FUTURE SELF CHAPTER ONE — THE MESSAGE

THE GIRL WHO RECEIVED A TEXT FROM HER FUTURE SELF

CHAPTER ONE — THE MESSAGE

The first message came at exactly 2:17 a.m.

Elaris was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling while rain tapped softly against her window. She had been trying to sleep for almost an hour, but something about that night felt strangely different.

Her phone suddenly vibrated beside her.

Unknown Number

Elaris frowned.

Who would be texting her at this hour?

She picked up the phone and opened the message.

“Elaris, whatever you do tomorrow, DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL.”

She stared at the screen.

“What kind of nonsense is this?”

She almost blocked the number, but another message appeared.

“I know you think this is a joke. It isn't.”

Elaris sat up.

Her heart began beating faster.

She typed:

“Who are you?”

The reply came almost immediately.

“I'm you.”

Elaris laughed nervously.

“Okay… this person is definitely crazy.”

Then another message arrived.

“I'm you. Five years from now.”

Her smile disappeared.

She stared at the screen for several seconds.

There was no way.

Someone was obviously playing a prank on her.

She typed:

“Prove it.”

The typing bubble appeared.

Then disappeared.

Then appeared again.

Finally, a message came through.

“Tomorrow morning, Mum will call you twice. Don't answer the second call.”

Elaris's fingers froze over the phone.

Nobody outside her family knew that her mother always called her twice every morning.

She swallowed.

Then another message appeared.

“And Elaris… whatever happens, don't trust Daniel.”

Her eyes widened.

Daniel was her closest friend.

Why would her future self tell her not to trust him?

Before she could reply, her phone vibrated again.

This time, the message was only four words.

“You have one week.”

Elaris stared at the screen.

“One week for what?”

No reply came.

She tried calling the number.

Number unavailable.

She tried again.

Nothing.

Then suddenly, another notification appeared.

It wasn't a message.

It was a photograph.

Elaris opened it.

Her breath caught.

It was a picture of her.

But Elaris had never seen the picture before.

She was standing in front of an unfamiliar building, looking older.

And beside her stood Daniel.

But there was something terrifying about the picture.

Elaris was crying.

And Daniel was holding a newspaper with a date printed across the front.

Five years from today.

Elaris dropped the phone onto her bed.

For the first time that night, she was no longer wondering whether the message was real.

She was wondering what was going to happen tomorrow.

And why her future self was so desperate to stop it.

TO BE CONTINUED…
