The Land Of The Rising Sun: Chapter 2: A Cold Welcome.

Chapter 2: A Cold Welcome

It seemed over, but Ndubuisi raised me up and carried me on his back. We went into the thick forest, where he used Ngiribe leaves to massage my waist. I wailed at the loss of two sons in one day. I decided to admit defeat. I opened my calabash and buried the only part of Ngozi's body I could find.

I managed to get up, and with the aid of Ndubuisi, we made our way out of the forest. We were fully aware that we were far away from the refugee camp, but we were in Ubakala, my hometown. I hoped to see my parents, and the smile on Ndubuisi's face gave me the assurance that all was well.

We were welcomed by a pool of dead bodies.

I was bewildered, and Ndubuisi wore the same expression of shock. He tried to approach me, hoping to console me, but he stepped on a trap. He was badly wounded. There was little or no noise, yet Ndubuisi fell slowly.

I leaped towards him and saw a Nigerian soldier, fully aware of his presence. I paid no attention to the soldier but rushed to my Ndubuisi. Our memories flashed through my mind, and...

I woke up in a noisy place. A face was very close to mine. I screamed, only to realize that I was in a Nigerian camp.

Men were stark naked, taking turns violating different women, and I was one of them.

I felt pain all over my body.

I looked up to behold the face before me.

It was him.

The same man who had killed Ndubuisi.

His death flashed through my mind once more, and I cried. The man was sweating as he moved over me, but my mind was no longer there. I felt nothing except pain. I remembered only Ndubuisi.

As the Nigerian soldier ran his tongue between my breasts, I realized that I was naked. The ordeal was tormenting, and I had no choice but to endure it.

He stood up, revealing his pencil-sized, erect shaft that kept coming close to my face. He wanted me to put it in my mouth, but I refused. I kept my mouth shut.

His fellow soldiers came over, held my hands, and covered my nose, hoping I would open my mouth for air. I was turning blue, so I had no choice but to open my mouth. As I gasped for breath, he forced himself on me.

I bit him as hard as I could.

He cried out like a baby.

Then...

Everything went black.

When I woke up again, I was dressed and sitting among other women.

I stood up and tried to get away, but a woman stopped me. I later found out that her name was Aisha. She told me how useless it was to try escaping because I was in the heart of the camp.

I cried my way back to where I had been lying and was consoled by an elderly woman. She quietly gave me tips on how to escape if I truly wanted to. She told me that the Nigerian soldiers were usually less alert as early as 10 p.m., so I had a chance.

As I waited for the time to come, memories of my family flooded my mind, and I dozed off.

I was awakened almost immediately by the elderly woman who had promised to help me escape.

I kept running until my legs could no longer carry me. I collapsed from exhaustion onto a bench. It wasn't until I woke up the following morning that I realized I was in Umuahia.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
