We seem to Romanticize Hardships, Pain and Suffering too much

My Thoughts on Romanticizing Hardships, Pain, and Suffering

I feel like we make too much of a big deal about pain and struggles sometimes. Like, everywhere you look—movies, music, even social media—people act like you have to go through hard times to be strong or successful. They make it seem like suffering is this cool thing that makes you deep or special. But honestly, I’m tired of that story.

Don’t get me wrong, tough times can teach you stuff. I’ve had my share of struggles, like everyone else—school stress, family wahala, or just life in Nigeria where things aren’t always easy. But why do we act like pain is the only way to grow? I see people on X posting about “hustle till you cry” or “no sleep, just grind,” like it’s a flex. But that mindset can mess you up. I read somewhere that burnout is a real problem for young people, and I believe it. Chasing struggle just because it’s “deep” isn’t healthy.

Sometimes, suffering is just suffering. It doesn’t always make you wiser or stronger. Like, if someone’s going through something heavy, we shouldn’t make them feel like they need to turn it into some big life lesson. Not every hardship has a happy ending, and that’s okay. I also think this focus on pain pushes aside people whose struggles don’t look “epic” enough, like quiet battles with anxiety or family issues.

I’m not saying we should avoid challenges. But why don’t we talk more about finding joy or learning from good moments? You don’t need to be in pain to be a better person. I think real strength is knowing when to rest, when to say no to stress, or when to just enjoy life. We need to stop making suffering look so cool and start celebrating peace and balance too. That’s what I’m trying to do, at least.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
