WHAT I COULDN'T SAY IN THE MOMENT
<p>What I couldn’t say in the moment</p><p>sat burning underneath my tongue,</p><p>a truth I kept swallowing whole</p><p>so no one would call it “too much,”</p><p>so no one would say I was wrong.</p><p><br/></p><p>What I couldn’t say back then</p><p>was how heavy it felt to be quiet,</p><p>how pretending I was okay</p><p>became a second skin I wore</p><p>until it started to riot.</p><p><br/></p><p>What I couldn’t say in the moment</p><p>was that I needed someone to stop,</p><p>to look, to actually see me,</p><p>not the version they invented</p><p>because it was easier to copy.</p><p><br/></p><p>What I couldn’t say back then</p><p>was that the jokes weren’t harmless,</p><p>that the comments left marks</p><p>that didn’t show on my body</p><p>but lingered everywhere else.</p><p><br/></p><p>What I couldn’t say in the moment</p><p>was that I deserved to feel safe,</p><p>to breathe without bracing,</p><p>to talk without shrinking,</p><p>to exist without erasing myself.</p><p><br/></p><p>What I couldn’t say back then</p><p>is finally rising now, clear and brave:</p><p>I wasn’t weak for staying quiet.</p><p>I was tired of being unheard.</p><p>And even silence has a breaking point</p><p>when a heart wants to be saved.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>From: The 'Unspoken Versions of Me' series </p><p>Pt 4</p>
