When friendship turned into resentment

Sometimes you look the same,

just as you did before everything.

When I watch you smile, memories flood my mind,

and for a moment I forget,

that we are no longer what we used to be.

It's hard to believe how fast you changed,

how gently our friendship turned into resentment.

How the hands that once held my secrets

became the ones I struggled to reach.

I still remember the days

when your laughter felt like home,

when silence between us was comfortable

and not a wall built from things left unsaid.

Funny how someone can remain the same person

and still feel completely different.

Your voice sounds familiar,

your smile carries the same warmth,

but somehow I don't know you anymore.

Was it the argument that broke us,

or was it all the little wounds

we pretended weren't there?

Was it pride that pulled us apart,

or were we already drifting

and just waiting for a reason to admit it?

I miss you in a strange way

not the person standing before me,

but the person I knew before everything changed.

I hope you're happy,

even if happiness no longer includes me.

And I hope somewhere in your memories,

I am still the friend

you once chose to keep.

I wrote this for my friend... My best friend after we got separated by a trivial matter. I still live her but life happens I guess.
