For now I'd watch
<p>For now, I'd watch.</p><p>I'd watch her laugh without caution</p><p>at jokes of his that aren't even funny,</p><p>watch her hands fold gently between his,</p><p>watch the way she melts beneath every glance he gives her.</p><p>For now, I'd sit quietly and watch her believe</p><p>she's finally found her happy ever after.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'd watch her smile.</p><p>Watch her dance beneath the rain with him,</p><p>careless of the world,</p><p>as though nothing could ever touch them.</p><p>I'd watch him hold her close,</p><p>whisper the words she's always wanted to hear,</p><p>and watch her heart believe every single one.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'd watch her enjoy the moment every beautiful, fleeting second of it</p><p>unaware that some moments, are only beautiful</p><p>because we don't yet know how they end.</p><p><br/></p><p>For now, I'd watch.</p><p>I'd watch him lie to her</p><p>and call it love.</p><p>I'd watch him speak softly to the fragile places inside her,</p><p>learning exactly what to say to keep her from seeing the truth.</p><p>I'd watch her fall for the devil all over again.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'd watch him pull her strings,</p><p>play her like a game,</p><p>teach her to dance to a tune she never chose.</p><p>And still,</p><p>I'd watch her smile.</p><p>I'd watch her hold on</p><p>while everything she believed in slowly slips through her fingers.</p><p><br/></p><p>I'd watch her mistake attention for devotion,</p><p>promises for permanence,</p><p>and his presence</p><p>for a place she could finally call home.</p><p><br/></p><p>For now, I'd watch her enjoy</p><p>her sweet little love story</p><p>before the sweetness turns bitter.</p><p>Because sometimes, you don't stop someone from walking into the fire.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sometimes,</p><p>you stand at the distance</p><p>and watch them discover</p><p>that the warmth they were chasing</p><p>was never warmth at all.</p><p>It was the beginning of the burn.</p>
