WHEN MY SHADOWS GREW WINGS.

I spent years mistaking my shadows for enemies.

I buried them beneath laughter, beneath poetry, beneath the careful performance of someone who was never breaking.

But darkness has a patient memory.

It waited until the silence grew louder than my pretense.

Then one evening, I looked behind me

and my shadows had grown wings.

Not to haunt me. To leave.

They carried away the guilt I inherited, the names I answered that were never mine, the grief I mistook for identity.

I watched them rise like black birds against an amber sky,

and for the first time, I understood that healing is not becoming someone untouched by pain. It is watching your wounds learn how to fly without taking your soul with them.

So if you see me now, lighter than the storms I once called home, know this

I did not outrun my darkness. I loved it long enough that one day, it unfolded its wings, thanked me for carrying it, and disappeared into the horizon, leaving me with nothing but the quiet courage to finally be free.

             Lumi echoes 🦋🖤
