Dear Salary earner,

Why hast thou forsaken thyself?

Let’s talk about not just earning money, but actually enjoying it too. Honestly, being an adult these days means dealing with bills; lots and lots of bills.

A few weeks before payday, I was working on my monthly budget. I’m usually in charge of buying groceries like tissues, milk, sugar, soap, and water. As I was planning, I stopped and stared at the page. Where do I even fit into this budget? Even the darn sugar I buy, I barely use it.

I looked at the baby wipes on my list and thought,

Well, at least I get wipes. That’s when it hit me: I work way too hard not to enjoy my own money!

So, I decided to make a change. I took out ₦20k just for myself and had a fun day out. Since then, every month, I set aside ₦20k to buy or do something I really want. And yes, that’s separate from my monthly ₦5k treat-myself meal!

So why am I sharing this with you?

Because we all know the post-payday routine. The salary comes in, and for a few minutes, we feel amazing. Then reality sets in: rent, utilities, subscriptions, groceries, and moving money into savings and investments.

But when it comes to what’s left, we act like we don’t deserve anything nice. Here’s the thing: budgeting matters, but saving every kobo for the future while living a joyless life is a trap. We spend over forty hours a week trading our time, energy, and peace of mind for money.

You should set aside a little something just for yourself. It doesn’t have to be a lot, just enough to make you look back and think, "Hmm, at least all that crying in the office was not in vain.

Does that make sense?

So, treat yourself to a nice meal, or finally get that movie ticket or book you’ve been wanting all month. Being responsible doesn’t mean you have to live without joy.

So after you finish reading this, go get yourself something you love. And if you’re looking for a good book and aren’t sure what to choose, remember, I write and sell great books! You get?

Go out and have some fun today. You deserve it.

But wait, you have work today. Go to work, then get something for yourself, because guess what? No work equals no money; no money equals having crazy thoughts of selling your blood or kidney. Or worse, your body!

Oh well! May God crown your efforts with success; Have a great Monday, and if no one told you today, 'you're doing well, and you have a great ass!'

Byeeee!
