The children are not biologically yours.” he muttered after.

My heart sank.

“My children?” I asked again, like he would say something else

“Yes.”

I looked down at the paper again.

Lolade, Chinara ,Bisola.

My three children.

The three children Folakemi had given birth to.

The three children I had raised.

Lolade was twelve.

My first child, my first joy.

I remembered the day she was born. I remembered how I had held her tiny body and felt like the happiest man alive.

Chinara was eight, my second child.

And Bisola was five, My baby girl.

My last child.

The child who still ran to me whenever I came back from work.

And now this doctor was sitting in front of me telling me that none of them was mine.

For twelve year, I had been calling another man's children mine for twelve fucking years?

My forehead squeezed together, My heart started beating fast and irregularly.

I suddenly felt like I needed to pee, I didn't even know what to do.

I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or smash something.

“Please calm down, Mr. Kolade,” the doctor said.

I looked at him.

“Calm down?”

He nodded. “It's not the end of the world.”

I almost laughed. Not the end of the world?

How the hell was this not the end of the world?

So the children I had been raising were not mine?

The children I had been sacrificing for and paying their school fees were not mine?

The children I had been proudly calling my children were somebody else's?

I stood up immediately.

My hand went to the car keys resting on the doctor's desk.

“Mr. Kolade, you need to.....” I heard the doctor talking.

I grabbed the keys, and walked out.

I didn't hear the rest.

The moment I entered the hallway, I stopped and closed my eyes.

Maybe I was dreaming.

Maybe this was some terrible dream.

I opened my eyes.

The paper was still in my hand.

I closed them again.

Opened them.

Still there.

NEGATIVE!!!

I stared at it.

Folakemi....How could she?

Why would she lie to me for all these years?

How could she look into my eyes every day and allow me to believe those children were mine?

Did that also mean she had been fucking another man behind my back?

Goddd!

Another man had been making her scream so loudly too, making her legs shake uncontrollably?

Definitely, she had been giving that man all the naughty styles she used to do with me in bed, those styles that always sent me straight to heaven. The riding and all.

Haaaa, Folakemi!

I won't forgive you.

I walked toward the exit.

And while walking, something suddenly came back to my mind.

What even made me do this DNA test in the first place?

Twitter!!!

That stupid fucking Twitter trend.

There had been a trend going around.

"What if the children your wife gave birth to are not your children?"

I had laughed when I saw it.

I had shown it to my best friend, Kayode and my other friends.

“This kind of joke is rubbish,” I had told them.

We had all laughed.

Then Kayode had said we should all do DNA tests.

Just for fun.

Just to prove that our children were ours.

I had agreed.

Why wouldn't I?

I trusted my wife.

At least, I thought I did.

Then i secretly collected the children's samples because I wanted to surprise Kayode when the result came out.

I thought the result would be positive.

I thought I would laugh at all of them.

I thought I knew my wife, I thought I knew my family.

I thought I was the only man sleeping with Folakemi.

I thought when she came to me at night and wrapped herself around me, I was the only man she had ever done that with.

I thought I was the only one she wanted.

I thought I was the only one she was giving herself to.

So what the fuck had happened? Was I enough for her?

I got into my car, and slammed the door.

I placed the DNA result on the passenger seat and stared at it.

Three children.

None of them mine.

I started the engine.

“God…”

I shook my head.

I drove out of the hospital.

My hands tightened around the steering wheel.

I wanted to get home, I needed answers.

I needed to look at Folakemi's face.

I needed to ask her.

Who is the father of the children?

Why did you lie to me?

Why did you allow me to father children that weren't mine?

Why?

I pressed harder on the accelerator.

I wanted to fly home.

My hands were so tight around the steering wheel that my knuckles turned white.

Along the way, traffic held me up.

I hit the steering wheel.

“Fuck!”

A tear suddenly dropped from my eye.

I didn't even know when I started crying.

I wiped it away.

Another one came, then another.

“God, why have You forsaken me?” I heard myself say it.

My phone started ringing, i glanced at it.

It was Kayode calling, I stared at his name. Of course, he must have gotten his result too.

Maybe he was calling to ask if mine had arrived, maybe he was excited, maybe his children were all his.

Maybe he was calling to laugh with me.

How the hell was I supposed to tell him that I wasn't the father of my children?

How was I supposed to say it?

Kayode, the joke we were making has become my reality.

I couldn't, I let the call ring.

It stopped, then it rang again.

I rejected it, i didn't have the strength to talk.

The traffic finally cleared, and I continue driving.

The rest of the journey was silent.

But inside me, there was no silence.

I was screaming, I was mourning and I was grieving.

My mind kept going back to Folakemi.

That woman had been my wife for years.

I had loved her, i had trusted her.

I had shared my bed with her.

I had thought I was the only man who knew her intimately.

The thought made my blood boil.

But even that wasn't the biggest pain.

The biggest pain was the children.

The children were not mine, that was what was killing me.

How do I start?

How do I look at Lolade?

How do I look at Chinara?

How do I look at Bisola?

How do I tell myself they are not mine after twelve years?

“Folakemi…”

My voice broke. “You've killed me.”

When I finally got home, the gate opened.

I drove into the compound and parked. The moment I stepped out of the car, I heard them.

“Daddy!”

“Daddy is back!”

“Daddy!”

I froze.

Lolade came running toward me.

Chinara followed.

Bisola ran behind them.

They were smiling.

Happy.

Excited that Daddy was home.

Bisola stretched her arms toward me.

“Daddy!”

I stared at her. My heart twisted.

I wanted to hug her, My body wanted to move toward her.

But my mind stopped me.

The paper.

The doctor's words, the children are not yours.

I stepped backward and muttered. “Nobody should hug me.”

With that, they all stopped.

Bisola looked confused.

“Daddy?”

I looked away.

“Where is your mother?” I asked coldly.

Lolade looked at me.

“She is inside.”

“Where?”

“In her room.”

I didn't wait, I walked into the house.

“Folakemi!”

My voice echoed through the sitting room.

I climbed the stairs.

“Folakemi, come outside!”

No answer.

“You have a lot of questions to answer!”

My voice shook.

“How dare you?”

By the time I reached our bedroom, tears were already sitting in my eyes.

I pushed the door open.

And there she was.

Folakemi was standing in front of the mirror, applying her skincare.

She was wearing red sexy lingerie that exposed her body, her banging body. The firmness of her breasts, the roundness of her big buttocks, everything about her was exactly the kind of thing that used to drive me crazy.

If this had been an ordinary day, I knew exactly what would have happened.

I would have walked toward her, spanked her buttocks, grabbed her from behind, and she would have turned to me with that smile on her face.

She would have teased me, pulled me toward the bed, and before long, we would have forgotten everything else.

She would have been riding the hell out of me.

That was how we were.

When she finally turned around, she smiled.

“My love…”

And that was when she saw the frown on my face.

Her smile disappeared immediately.

She walked toward me.

“Kolade?”

Her eyes moved to the tears in my eyes, then to the paper in my hand.

“What happened?”

I stepped closer to her “Don’t call me that,” I said angrily.

She frowned, confused by my words. “Kolade, what’s wrong?”

I grabbed her wrist “How dare you, Folakemi?”

She stared at me.

“You killed me.”

Her eyebrows pulled together. “What are you talking about?”

I raised the paper in my hand. “Who is the father of Lolade?”

She froze.

“And Chinara?”

Her lips parted slightly.

“And Bisola?”

She didn’t answer.

“They are not my children.”

Her face changed.

“Kolade…” she muttered slowly.

“Say it!” I shouted, my hands shaking.

“Tell me!”

She stepped backward.

“Don’t lie to me. You have been fucking another man behind my back all these years!”

I held up the paper. “The DNA test says they are not mine!”

She stared at the paper. Then she looked at me again.

I watched her face carefully.

I wanted her to tell me it was a mistake.

I wanted her to tell me the doctor mixed up the results.

I wanted her to lie.

Yes, for the first time in my life, I wanted my wife to lie to me.

“Tell me I’m wrong!” I shouted again.

But she didn’t answer. And that was when I saw it.

Something in her eyes changed....she looked guilty.

No!!?

No, no, no.

She was admitting it.

Fuck!!

She shouldn’t, She should just tell me those children were mine.

Suddenly, her eyes filled with tears. I stepped closer to her, waiting.

“Who is he?”

Her mouth opened slightly.

Like she was finally ready to speak.

I wanted to hear everything. Every single detail.

Who was the man who destroyed my life?
