The night that changed everything

chapter 1

****

 Lira's pov.

“Take off your fucking clothes!,” Gorge, my stepfather, yelled as he barged into my room. His voice was heavy with wine, and a crooked laugh escaped his mouth. In his hand was a half-empty bottle, the liquid sloshing as he staggered closer.

I was sitting at the edge of my bed, staring out at the dark window. The air in my room pressed against my chest like a heavy stone.

My mother’s perfume still lingered faintly on my sheets, it was soft, floral, and comforting. It reminded me of her last visit to my room, her warm hug, and her whispered words. But she was gone now, and she was buried yesterday.

My mother had died of cancer. The sickness she had fought for years finally claimed her life, leaving me alone in this house with her husband.

I pulled my knees tightly against my chest. “Be strong, Lira. Just be strong,” I whispered to myself.

No one was coming to save me, George had only ever held back because of my mother. Now that she was no more, there was nothing standing between me and his twisted desires.

“I said take off your fucking clothes!” he yelled again, his teeth glinting under the dim light.

My heart thudded painfully, I stumbled backward until my back hit the headboard. “What are you doing here? my mother just died, and you’re already doing this? Don’t you feel any shame?”

With this, he chuckled darkly. The sound slithered through me like poison.

Then he settled the bottle on my dresser and stepped closer, his eyes glittering with hunger as he shouted. “Shame? when you’re what she left me....whether you like it or not, you’ll be mine.”

Tears burned my eyes, but anger pushed through. " Just get out of my room!!” I managed to say.

I should have known this day would come, because ever since i moved into his house with my mother, he had shown his true nature. At first it was the way he looked at me too long, and the way his words brushed the line between casual and filthy.

I never told my mother, because she was finally happy marrying him after years of loneliness, and I didn’t want to shatter her illusion. But now… her happiness had left me in hell.

My mother had married him after fifteen years of loneliness. She had told me that my father died when she was just a month pregnant with me, and she had been married to him for five years before her death.

George leaned in until I could smell the sharp sting of alcohol on his breath. His hand brushed my shoulder, and he whispered hot against my ear. “ you are finally mine”

Hatred crawled over my skin. I wanted to slap him, but fear locked my body in place.

“Stay away from me!” I shoved him weakly, with my voice cracking.

For a second, I thought he might stop. Instead, his face twisted with fury. He grabbed my arm roughly and shoved me onto the bed, holding me down as he laughed.

“This is just the beginning,” he whispered, his voice low and dangerous.

I tried to scramble away, my heart hammering, but he pressed me back against the mattress and reached for the wine bottle on the dresser.

 With that, my stomach dropped.

Then he forced my jaw open, squeezing my cheeks painfully, and poured the alcohol straight into my mouth. I gagged and coughed, spitting some onto my sheets, but still swallowed too much. By the time the bottle was empty, my vision blurred and my body swayed.

He smiled at my weakness. His face moved closer, and his lips brushed mine.

I turned away, but his hot breath clung to my skin. Just then, my eyes caught the bottle he had dropped carelessly on the bed beside me.

Immediately, an idea sparkled in my mind: if I could reach it, I could smash it over his head and break free.

I let him kiss me, and let his filthy hands roam over my body. My stomach turned with disgust, but I stayed still. He thought I was giving in, he thought I was broken.

Meanwhile, my hand was inching toward the bottle. Then my fingers brushed the glass, and curled around it.

He groaned against my lips, his hand tugging at my clothes. My chest heaved, my strength faded fast. But then, Boom!

I swung the bottle with everything I had left. The glass cracked against his skull. He staggered, and his eyes wide with shock, before blood streamed down his forehead.

“You bitch,” he groaned, clutching his head. “Let’s see if you can ever leave this house.” Then he collapsed onto the floor, half-conscious.

I staggered to my feet, the room spinning around me. My phone lay on the bed. For a heartbeat, I thought about grabbing it. But then I saw him move slowly and weakly, trying to push himself up.

 Immediately, Panic surged through me.

I left the phone and stumbled out of the room, down the hallway. My vision swam, my knees buckled, but I kept moving. I had to get out before he caught again.

The front door loomed ahead like salvation. My trembling hand reached for the handle.

And then, behind me, his voice growled through the silence.

“Run if you want, Lira… but you’ll never escape me.”

I turned slightly to see him. Blood dripped from his head as he staggered down the hallway trying to catch me.

No, not today. I wouldn’t let him hold me, because it would be my forever nightmare.

I flung the door open and ran. Behind me, I heard him chasing, but I didn’t stop. I pushed open the large gate of the compound and rushed into the night.

Rain started drizzling, soaking me through, but I didn’t care. I didn’t even look back, I knew he was still following.

Breathless, I turned into a narrow corner that led to another road, hoping it would confuse him. The water splashed under my feet as I ran blindly. That was when I almost collided with something solid.

A sleek black car was parked by the side of the road. Beside it, a man stood under the rain, with his phone in ear. It seemed like he was receiving a call. I hadn’t seen him until it was too late. My legs wobbled, and I stumbled forward straight into his arms.

His strong hands caught me before I could fall. I blinked up at him through the blur of rain. His face was the kind that made the world pause, his jawline sharp, his eyes burning with an unreadable fire, and his lips set in quiet confidence.

Even drenched in rain, he looked untouchable, his expensive suit clinging to broad shoulders like a second skin

“Hey… are you alright?” His deep voice cut through my trembling.

I sagged weakly against him, my breath uneven. “Please… save me,” I whispered, before everything turned dark.
