Heaven, baby or Heaven baby?
<p><br/></p><p>Nigerians have collectively removed a comma from Ayra Starr’s song.</p><p>I’m for reals 😭</p><p>This trending song by Ayra Starr there’s a particular line that most people seem to have picked up:</p><p>“You could be my heaven, baby.”</p><p>I repeat: you could be my heaven, baby.</p><p><br/></p><p>But somehow, Nigerians have collectively decided that it is:</p><p><br/></p><p>“You Could Be My Heaven Baby.”</p><p><br/></p><p>Every post I see referencing the song says heaven baby. Every caption. Every tweet. Every comment.</p><p><br/></p><p>And somehow, along the line, I started believing it too.</p><p><br/></p><p>I don’t even have the song downloaded on my phone, but subconsciously, I had accepted heaven baby as the actual lyric.</p><p><br/></p><p>What doesn’t kill you makes you sit around at 3 a.m. with your random thoughts.</p><p><br/></p><p>So, naturally, I went to Google.</p><p><br/></p><p>“What does heaven baby actually mean?”</p><p><br/></p><p>The answer?</p><p><br/></p><p>A baby that died and is now in heaven.</p><p><br/></p><p>Chaiiiii.</p><p><br/></p><p>I was shocked.</p><p><br/></p><p>Then I went to check the lyrics myself.</p><p><br/></p><p>And there it was.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You could be my heaven, baby.”</p><p><br/></p><p>The comma was there all along.</p><p><br/></p><p>Now, I don’t even know what happened to us.</p><p><br/></p><p>Did we all genuinely hear heaven baby?</p><p><br/></p><p>Did we simply start repeating what everyone else was saying?</p><p><br/></p><p>Or have Nigerians collectively decided that punctuation is optional when singing along to songs?</p><p><br/></p><p>Because look at what one tiny comma did.</p><p><br/></p><p>“You could be my heaven, baby.”</p><p><br/></p><p>You could be my heaven, baby.</p><p><br/></p><p>Versus:</p><p><br/></p><p>“Heaven baby.”</p><p><br/></p><p>A completely different thing.</p><p><br/></p><p>And this has made me wonder how often we repeat things simply because we've heard everyone else repeat them. At some point, the crowd becomes our source of truth.</p><p><br/></p><p>Anyway, I have presented my evidence.</p><p><br/></p><p>The comma was innocent.</p><p><br/></p><p>We were the problem.</p><p><br/></p><p>I’ll be in the comments.</p><p><br/></p><p>Caio o!</p>
