HOW ARE YOU?
<p>Normalise not asking "How are you?" if you're not ready for a response other than "fine". The question should come from a place of genuine concern and not just a superficial silence filler. In Nigeria, 'how are you?' has become the next thing after good morning, good afternoon or good evening. Good morning, not 'how are you?' is what follows good morning.</p><p><br/></p><p>'How are you?' Three words pieced together and loaded with a curiosity that's both warm and welcoming. A curiosity that says 'I am ready to listen if you're willing to share'. If asked nicely, walls fall and shields of smiles give way. Believe it or not, people - many times - sense it when the question bears no substance of true care.</p><p><br/></p><p>You'd think people are big on keeping stuff locked behind sealed lips. They're only careful because, it turns out, there are more newscasters than there are television stations. So, anytime you are moved to ask that simple question, mean it and let your tone of voice prove it.</p>
