I WILL ALWAYS STAY

There was a time when I believed love was measured by who stayed the longest.

So I stayed.

I stayed through unanswered messages because I told myself people get busy. I stayed through conversations that slowly became one-sided because I thought everyone has difficult seasons. I stayed through the silence, the excuses, and the feeling that I was slowly becoming a stranger to someone who once made me feel seen.

I kept telling myself that if I loved a little harder, understood a little more, and waited a little longer, things would return to the way they used to be.

They never did.

One day, I caught myself reading old conversations, smiling at words that no longer belonged to the present. It was strange how someone could still make you feel loved in memories while making you feel invisible in real life.

The hardest part wasn't that they changed, it was realizing I had been changing too. Without noticing, I had become someone who apologized for asking for the bare minimum. Someone who celebrated the smallest effort because I was afraid of asking for more. Someone who kept pouring from an empty cup, hoping love would somehow refill it.

Then I remembered something I once promised.

I had always said, "I will always stay."

I just never realized that promise was supposed to include me too. Maybe love isn't only about staying with someone else. Maybe it's also about staying with yourself when your heart wants to disappear just to make someone else comfortable.

So I left.

Not because I stopped loving them, but because I finally started loving myself enough to know that staying should never mean losing who I am.

Sometimes people think the saddest love stories end with goodbye.

I don't think so.

I think the saddest ones are the stories where someone keeps abandoning themselves just to keep someone else from leaving. If love asks you to become less of yourself, it isn't asking you to stay.

It's asking you to disappear.

And I promised myself something different now. Wherever life takes me, whoever walks into my heart, I will love deeply, forgive freely, and give honestly.

But this time...

I will always stay with me first.

♡ LISS WHISPERS
