NOW AND LATER.. WHAT’S YOUR BALANCE?

I think the obsession about the “future” is robbing us of the fact that we are living in a reality of the future.

Okay, just follow.

I know they told you to think about your future. Plan, prepare, sacrifice now so that you can enjoy later.

Of course! Do all of that.

But sometimes I wonder if, in our desperation to become something tomorrow, we forget to actually be something today.

Think about it.

Five years ago, this moment was your future. The things you once said, “When I get there…” about are probably some of the things you are living right now. You prayed for this age. You imagined having this much freedom. You wanted to be this independent. You looked forward to this season.

And now that you are here, you are already looking past it and planning the next thing.

Already telling yourself that the “real life” will begin when you graduate, when you make more money, when you get married, when the business grows, when you move, when you finally become the person you have been trying so hard to become.

But my dear…

This is also a future.

It is the future you were once waiting for. And there is a strange irony in spending so much of today preparing for a tomorrow that, when it finally arrives, will simply become another today.

The future you are planning for will not remain the future when it comes. It will become your present.

And if you never learn how to live in the present, you may spend your entire life arriving at moments you were too busy preparing for to actually enjoy.

This isn't an argument against planning.

Please, plan, save, invest, build, study, prepare, and always think ahead.

But while you are building the life you want to live someday, don't neglect the life you are already living.

Call your friend.

Sit with your family.

Laugh without calculating how productive the moment is.

Rest without feeling guilty.

Go somewhere simply because you want to.

Celebrate the little progress.

Be present enough to notice that you are becoming the person you once prayed to become.

Because there will always be another future, and another goal. Another level and another thing to prepare for.

And if you keep postponing your life until everything is perfectly arranged, you may discover, years later, that you were excellent at preparing for life, but hardly lived it.

So yes, look ahead, but just don't stare so hard at the horizon that you forget to notice the ground beneath your feet.

You are in a future right now.

Someone you were five years ago would definitely be amazed that you made it this far.

So please, strike a balance.

Build for tomorrow, but don't abandon today to do it.
