WAIT! WHO MADE THIS RULE?

I heard it’s “first of all, introduction”

Hold on. Who said that?

Because apparently, the moment you enter a new room, you are expected to tell everyone who you are.

Your name. What you do. Where you're from. Sometimes your department. Your hobbies.. and, if the person holding the microphone is feeling particularly adventurous, your expectations for the new place.

All before you've even figured out where the bathroom is!! Urghhhhh

But I've been thinking…

Why must I introduce myself before I have had the chance to be known?

I can tell you my name, but my name doesn't tell you who I am.

I can tell you what I study, but that doesn't tell you what keeps me awake at night.

I can tell you that I'm a writer, but you haven't read anything I've written.

I can tell you I'm quiet, but perhaps I'm only quiet around strangers.

An introduction can tell you what to call me. It can tell you what I have chosen to reveal about myself. But it cannot tell you who I am.

Because some things about people cannot be introduced, they have to be discovered.

You discover someone's humor in an unexpected conversation.

Their kindness when nobody is watching. Their temper when things don't go their way. Their dreams in the things they keep talking about. Their character in the little things they do when they think nobody noticed.

And perhaps that's why some of the people we meet briefly remain strangers even after we have exchanged names. While some people become home without ever properly introducing themselves.

So, who made the rule that introduction must come first? Maybe it doesn't.

Maybe sometimes we should just sit down. Listen. Observe. Have a conversation. Laugh about something stupid.. and let a person slowly become themselves in front of us.

Because the most important things about me…

I probably couldn't introduce them to you anyway.

You'd have to stay long enough to notice.

Henywayss, let’s fulfill all righteousness.

I’m Strength, and I love being different in a world where identities are mirrored.

Can I know you?

Or maybe, what to call you.😅
