LEARN FROM THE YAHOO BOY

Wait. Before you come for my teeth, allow the writer write.

Everyday, in a generation like Gen Z, the number of people who devalue the “Yahoo boy” is undeniably on the increase. You find the ones who are all about “make money legally,” but actually do nothing, wether legally or not. You find the ones who are all about “I enjoy the wealth of Zion,” but have no channel through which the wealth can come.

All people see is a “Yahoo boy” desperate to make money. They see a boy who wants to impress an audience that doesn't care about him. Do they? They see a boy willing to sell his birthright for a morsel of meat. They see a boy who is not interested in schooling because he believes, “school na scam.”

Are they right? Absolutely.

Is the young boy wrong? Absolutely.

But if that is all we see, then there is a broken signal somewhere. Because, in the contrary, I see differently.

So come. See what I see.

I see a young boy disciplined enough to pursue what he wants. I see a boy willing to sacrifice pleasure for the prize. I see a boy who dares to leave his comfort zone because he knows that comfort can become a danger zone. I see a young boy who will not let sleep make things slip out of his hands. I see a young boy whose ears are shut to the murmurs of men.

And that is it.

My perspective does not justify the fact that the intention of that young man is wrong. But how about we learn from the character he displays to get what he wants?

How about we take up the character of resilience? That of discipline? How about we fix our eyes on the end and begin with the end in mind? How about we audaciously step out of our comfort zone and dare to DO THAT THING! How about we shut our ears to the many things men have to say?

How about these? How about we channel these characters into the right things?

Maybe, just then, we will yield results much greater than the Yahoo boy, and, he comes for it.

Not because his character changed, but because ours did.

And see, the lesson is not to admire the destination of the Yahoo boy. It is to recognize the discipline that carried him there, and redirect it toward something worthy.

Change the character of the criticizer, and perhaps you change the outcome of the criticized.

That right there, is a lesson to learn.
