Owned by devil’s heir

Chapter Three: The Devil’s Heir

Elena’s hand trembled as she reached for the doorknob.

Another knock came.

“Elena,” Damian’s deep voice called from the other side. “Open the door.”

She glanced one last time at the words on the mirror.

DON’T TRUST THEM.

Her heart pounded as she slowly opened the door.

Damian stood there, dressed in black from head to toe. His expression was unreadable, but there was something different in his eyes tonight—not anger, not arrogance… fear.

“You saw the message,” he said quietly.

“You knew it was there?”

“I knew someone would leave it.”

Before Elena could ask another question, the lights throughout Blackwood Estate flickered.

A loud crash echoed downstairs.

Then came Lucien’s voice.

“Damian!”

Damian’s face hardened.

“Stay behind me.”

He grabbed Elena’s wrist and hurried her through the dimly lit hallway. They reached the grand staircase just as Lucien stumbled into view, blood dripping from a cut above his eyebrow.

“He’s here,” Lucien breathed.

Elena looked between the brothers in confusion.

“Who?”

Lucien laughed bitterly.

“The real devil.”

A slow clap echoed through the mansion.

An older man emerged from the shadows.

Tall.

Elegant.

Terrifying.

Victor Blackwood.

The brothers’ father.

“You’ve hidden her well,” Victor said, his icy gaze settling on Elena. “But destiny always finds its way home.”

Elena frowned.

“I don’t understand.”

Victor smiled.

“You were never hired to clean this house.”

Silence fell.

“You were brought here because your family owes mine a debt that began twenty-five years ago.”

Elena’s breath caught.

“My parents died in an accident.”

“They were murdered,” Victor replied. “Because they refused to hand you over.”

The room spun.

“No…”

Damian stepped in front of her.

“Don’t listen to him.”

“It’s the truth,” Victor continued. “The Blackwood family has guarded an ancient inheritance for generations. The heir must be bound by blood—or by choice. I intended for you to become that bond.”

Elena stared at Damian.

“You knew?”

His jaw tightened.

“I knew parts of it. Not everything.”

“You lied to me.”

“I was trying to protect you.”

Victor laughed.

“Protect her? You fell in love with her.”

For the first time since Elena had met him, Damian looked vulnerable.

“I did.”

His voice barely rose above a whisper.

“I tried not to. But I failed.”

He turned to Elena.

“Everything else may have been built on lies, but this wasn’t. I love you, Elena.”

Victor pulled a pistol from inside his coat.

“If I can’t control the future of this family…”

He raised the weapon.

“…no one will.”

The shot rang out.

Elena screamed.

Damian shoved her aside just as the bullet struck his shoulder. Lucien tackled Victor, and the gun slid across the marble floor.

A struggle broke out.

Moments later, police officers stormed the mansion.

Victor had underestimated Lucien.

Before confronting his father, Lucien had secretly called the authorities and sent them recordings exposing years of murder, corruption, and blackmail.

Victor Blackwood was arrested.

As officers led him away, he glared at Damian.

“You’ve destroyed this family.”

Damian answered calmly.

“No.

I finally saved it.”

⸻

Three months later…

Blackwood Estate no longer felt haunted.

The dark curtains had been replaced with sunlight.

The silence with laughter.

Lucien announced he was leaving to travel the world and discover who he wanted to be without his father’s shadow hanging over him.

“You two deserve some peace,” he said with a grin. “Besides, someone has to send embarrassing postcards.”

Elena laughed and hugged him tightly.

Damian recovered from his injury, though the scar remained.

He never tried to hide it.

“It reminds me,” he told Elena one evening, “that some wounds are worth surviving.”

They stood in the estate’s rose garden as the sun dipped below the horizon.

Damian reached into his pocket.

He knelt on one knee.

“Elena Hart.”

She gasped.

“I inherited a name that people feared.”

He opened a small velvet box.

“But with you… I’d rather build one that people respect.”

Inside was a simple diamond ring.

“No secrets.”

“No lies.”

“No darkness.”

“Just us.”

Tears blurred Elena’s vision.

She smiled through them.

“Yes.”

He slipped the ring onto her finger before pulling her into his arms.

For the first time since arriving at Blackwood Estate, Elena no longer felt like a prisoner of fate.

She felt free.

The storm had passed.

The devil’s heir had chosen love over legacy.

And together, they proved that the strongest chains are not forged by blood or fear…

…but by the choice to stand beside the one who knows your darkness and loves you anyway.

The End.
