Six years later
<p><br/></p><p>You’ve been dead six years.</p><p><br/></p><p>But I still set a place for you.</p><p>I still whisper to the shadows,</p><p>hoping one of them is wearing your smile.</p><p><br/></p><p>They said grief would fade.</p><p>They lied.</p><p>It just changed its voice.</p><p>Now it sounds like mine.</p><p>Or yours.</p><p>Sometimes I can’t tell the difference.</p><p><br/></p><p>I talk to walls now.</p><p>I leave the door cracked, just in case you walk in.</p><p>I even laughed yesterday,</p><p>at a joke you didn’t tell.</p><p><br/></p><p>People say I’m strong.</p><p>But they don’t see me digging my nails into my arms</p><p>just to feel something real.</p><p>They don’t see the conversations I have at night</p><p>with a version of you</p><p>that only exists in my head.</p><p><br/></p><p>You’re not here.</p><p>But sometimes I hear you breathing</p><p>when I’m brushing my teeth.</p><p>Sometimes I smell your perfume</p><p>in rooms I haven’t entered.</p><p><br/></p><p>And the worst part?</p><p><br/></p><p>I don’t want to get better.</p><p>I don’t want to stop pretending</p><p>you never really left.</p><p><br/></p><p>Because if I accept you’re gone,</p><p>then what’s left of me?</p>
