WE HAVE MADE BEING BUSY LOOK LIKE SUCCESS

We live in a time where everyone seems busy.

Busy replying messages.

Busy attending meetings.

Busy posting.

Busy chasing money.

Busy building a career.

Busy trying to become somebody.

And somehow, the busier we become, the more successful we assume we are.

But being busy is not the same as making progress.

You can spend twelve hours doing things and still accomplish nothing important.

You can answer a hundred messages and never have one meaningful conversation.

You can attend countless meetings and never solve the problem.

You can spend hours scrolling through other people's lives while neglecting your own.

You can even become so busy trying to look productive that you never stop to ask whether what you're doing actually matters.

That is where society has confused movement with progress.

We praise the person who says, “I barely sleep.”

We admire people who are constantly unavailable.

We treat exhaustion like a badge of honour.

But when did being tired become proof that we are succeeding?

Some people are not building.

They are simply running.

Running from financial pressure.

Running from expectations.

Running from comparison.

Running from the fear that if they stop, they might realize they don't know where they are going.

And perhaps that is why silence has become uncomfortable.

Because when everything becomes quiet, you finally have to think.

Where am I going?

What am I actually building?

What am I sacrificing for this?

Is this ambition, or am I simply afraid of being left behind?

There is nothing wrong with working hard.

There is nothing wrong with ambition.

But a meaningful life requires more than constant activity.

Sometimes progress looks like working.

Sometimes it looks like resting.

Sometimes it looks like saying no.

Sometimes it looks like learning instead of rushing.

Sometimes it looks like deleting distractions and giving one important thing your full attention.

Because your life should not become a collection of activities that leave you too exhausted to enjoy the reason you started.

Don't just be busy. Be intentional.

Movement can make you feel productive.

But direction is what actually takes you somewhere.

And if you don't know where you're going, moving faster will not save you.

It will only get you lost sooner.

©️ Sammy Góld
