Women Are Too Emotional

Women are too emotional.

That’s what we’ve been told.

Too emotional to lead.

Too emotional to make decisions.

Too emotional to handle pressure.

But a little boy can throw a fit because you broke his toy,

and everyone laughs.

“My oh my… boys will be boys”

A grown man can punch a wall because he’s angry,

and somehow, “that’s just how men are”

lol.

A football team loses a match,

and in some homes, a woman waits for her dear husband to come home wondering what kind of night it will be.

Because sometimes, his team losing means her losing too.

Her peace.

Her safety.

Her body.

and somehow … she is still the emotional one.

Women have been beaten.

raped.

burned.

humiliated.

even killed.

Women in places that are torn apart by war and poverty have lived through things no human should have to live through.

And still, we hear:

“Women are too emotional.”

Too emotional?

For most of history,

the emotions women have known best

have been fear and tears.

Fear of walking home alone.

Fear of saying no.

Fear of making him angry.

Fear of becoming another name people whisper after a tragedy.

But the good thing is we are learning.

Learning to love without fear.

Learning to speak without shaking.

Learning to stand without asking permission.

Learning that softness is not weakness.

Because maybe women were never too emotional.

We just learned to hide our emotions better.

A woman’s anger is called attitude.

A man’s anger is called passion.

A woman cries, and she’s unstable.

A man rages, and he’s “just going through something/he is going through a lot.”

A woman cares too much, and she’s weak.

A man destroys too much, and he’s powerful.

So maybe the question was never,

“Why are women so emotional?”

I feel the question should have been:

“Why did we spend so long calling men’s anger strength and women’s strength emotion?”

We were never too emotional. We were just expected to feel less.
