THE LAMENTATIONS OF THE DYING RAT
<p>‎The night came,</p><p>‎I was delivered of twenty- and five pup,</p><p>‎Joy amidst our camp, celebration galore,</p><p>‎I was happy I'm a mother after a decade.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎Pretty pups I gave birth to, male and female,</p><p>‎They glowed radiantly like crystal balls.</p><p>‎Moment later after their birth,</p><p>‎I was hungry because they sucked me deep.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎I hoped out in search of food,</p><p>‎Down the city lane my feet trudged,</p><p>‎Away to Chief Owonikoko's Villa,</p><p>‎My popular home of visit I guess.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎I entered through my normal entry, the back door,</p><p>‎And I made a quick hop into the kitchen;</p><p>‎I smelt something sumptuous,</p><p>‎I guessed, "it's Jollof rice"</p><p>‎</p><p>‎Little do I know that my enemies were around,</p><p>‎They did well to plan a coup against me;</p><p>‎Foolish me, I hopped towards the direction</p><p>‎where I perceived the aroma, but unfortunately,</p><p>‎</p><p>‎I got stucked by a golden trap.</p><p>‎I wiggled, wiggled, until all my flesh got tore,</p><p>‎I wailed and yowled in silence;</p><p>‎But my voice wasn't heard.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎When the pain seemed unbearable,</p><p>‎And my chances of escaping grew thin,</p><p>‎I shouted in great agony;</p><p>‎"I was only hungry"</p><p>‎</p><p>‎My voices were eventually heard, but it only </p><p>‎worsen the whole situation.</p><p>‎I should have kept mute, I guessed,</p><p>‎They all came with their dangerous weapon.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎Slippers, turning stick, plank and all.</p><p>‎With happiness in their voices,</p><p>‎They all ululated, "yes we found it"!</p><p>‎What gross is grosser than this?</p><p>‎</p><p>‎Kpa, kpo, kpa, kpo, kpa, kpo, kpa.</p><p>‎They weirded me with their weapon,</p><p>‎I was wounded beyond recognition,</p><p>‎I wonder whether I was an image.</p><p>‎</p><p>‎Dwellers on and beneath the earth</p><p>‎Those above and over the cloud</p><p>‎Tell my children to stay deep down their holes</p><p>‎Far away from where mortals do tread.</p><p>‎</p>
