THE COMFORTER ALSO NEED A COMFORTER

Have you ever felt concerned about those particular people you turn to when faced with life's travails?

Every now and then, you run to them when you're burdened with a load of fears. You free your mind, sharing everything with them. You cry, and they're always ready to listen to every bit of your distressed voice. They comfort you, wipe your tears, and even share your pain. They're always there, at your beck and call, seeming to be a safe haven you can run to anytime you're low-spirited and disturbed. They're more like a physical comforter.

Have you ever wondered who comforts these ones?

Pause.

Don't rush.

Selah.

Reflect...

.

.

.

Going miles? That's just an understatement. They can break legs while going miles for others. "Doing good" is like a lifestyle to them. They grab every chance at it as if their soul solely depends on it.

You know these ones; they're around you – the comforters.

They're there in your offices, schools, homes, churches, streets, and all.

Do that again; run to them as you always do, but this time, you're not going there for comfort but to comfort.

Share thoughts with them, let them talk, be open to them, and let them open their minds to you too. Who knows? Maybe they don't even know how to ask for a comforter but always play a comforter role in everyone's script.

Look straight into their faces, ask them questions. Ask them what inspires them to keep being strong for others. You will be shocked; for some of them, being strong for others is a way to hide their distress. For some, sharing other people's pains is an avenue for them to grieve over their own pain, a coping mechanism. For some, they don't want to be a burden to others, and for some, they were given silence treatment when they asked for help.

Hence, make them realize that you really care.

And lastly, if you're the comforter, look at you – turning up for people around you, always being there for others. It's so good you've done all these. It's great you're showing up strong. It's okay to lend a helping hand. It's also okay to ask for help.
