The silent damage your phone is doing to your neck

How many hours do you spend looking down at your phone every day?

You might not notice it, but that simple habit of bending your neck while scrolling, chatting, or watching videos can slowly put stress on your neck.

Our phones have become an important part of our lives. We use them for studying, working, communicating, and entertainment. The problem is not the phone itself; the problem is the posture we maintain while using it.

When you look down at your phone for a long time, your head moves forward from its normal position above your shoulders. This is called forward head posture.

Your head has a certain weight, and your neck muscles are designed to support it when it is properly aligned. But when your head moves forward, the muscles at the back of your neck have to work much harder to hold it up.

Think of it like carrying a heavy bag. Carrying it close to your body feels easier, but holding it far away from your body requires more effort. The same thing happens to your neck when your head stays forward for a long time.

Over time, this extra stress can cause:

- Neck pain and stiffness

- Tight shoulders

- Upper back discomfort

- Headaches

- Muscle fatigue

The good news is that you can protect your neck with simple changes.

Try to:

- Raise your phone closer to eye level.

- Take breaks from looking down at your screen.

- Move and stretch your neck and shoulders regularly.

- Avoid staying in one position for too long.

Your phone is not your enemy. It is a useful tool. The problem is how we use it.

The next time you find yourself looking down at your phone for hours, remember that your neck is working harder than you think.

How many hours do you think you spend on your phone daily?
