The Storm We Couldn't See

The Storm We Couldn't See

A Novel Inspired by True Events

‎"Some storms don't break windows. They quietly break hearts."

‎‎Chapter One: A Home Full of Questions‎

‎People often think tragedies arrive with loud noises.

‎But some tragedies are silent. They slip into a family unnoticed, hiding behind ordinary days until they become impossible to ignore.

This was one of those stories.‎

‎Amara was only fifteen years old.

‎She had just completed her secondary school education and looked forward to the future with excitement. While many of her friends were still wondering what career path to follow, Amara had already discovered her passion. She had started learning fashion design while she was still in secondary school, and after graduation, she completed her apprenticeship and proudly received her certificate.

‎‎She dreamed of building a successful career, helping her family, and making her parents proud. ‎Then, life changed. ‎The family lost their grandfather.

‎‎The news came unexpectedly, and everyone traveled to the village to pay their final respects. The days were filled with mourning, prayers, and memories of a man whose presence had held the family together for many years.

‎‎When they returned home, everyone hoped life would slowly return to normal.

‎‎Instead, another storm was waiting.

‎‎Not long after, Amara's mother, Mrs. Grace, lost her teaching job.‎

‎It wasn't just any job. She loved teaching. It wasn't only a source of income; it was part of who she was. Losing it felt like losing a part of herself.‎

‎At first, the family remained hopeful.

‎"Another opportunity will come," they told one another.

‎Days became weeks.‎

‎Weeks became months.

‎Every application ended in disappointment.

‎The savings gradually disappeared. Bills continued to pile up, and to keep food on the table, Mrs. Grace began borrowing money, believing that once she found another teaching job, she would repay every debt.‎

‎But another job never came.

‎As time passed, something about her began to change.

‎She smiled less.

She laughed less.

‎Some days she hardly spoke. Other days, the smallest misunderstanding became a serious argument.

‎‎The family believed the financial pressure was simply becoming too much.‎

‎No one imagined that something far more serious was quietly taking hold.

‎Not even Mrs. Grace herself.

‎Home slowly lost the peace it once had.

‎Every day felt unpredictable.

‎There were moments when everyone in the house became the target of her anger. Other times, it seemed to fall mostly on Amara.

‎Perhaps it was because Amara shared a special bond with her father. ‎Perhaps it was because everyone said she looked so much like him.

‎Whatever the reason, she often found herself carrying burdens she couldn't understand.

‎She missed the mother who laughed freely.

‎She missed the warmth that once filled their home.

‎Every night, she whispered silent prayers before falling asleep, hoping the next morning would be different.

‎She had no idea that this was only the beginning.

‎The greatest battle her family would ever face had not even revealed its name.

Watch out for chapter 2

Written by shuliê-ink 🖋️
