PS: The audio contains everything written, but of course, with a little drama.

.

I remembered vividly, early December Last year, I got an invitation. The first thing I asked was “will there be food?”

I won’t even say don’t judge me, you’re free to judge. But yes, I love events that promises food.

Or wait, events that I ACTUALLY EAT. Because it’s one thing for food to be available, and it’s another thing for you to eat. Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m saying. The pain.

The answer I got was in the affirmative.

Osheyyy! I no go attend keh?

I asked for the date, location and dress code. And this was it:

Date: December 31st, 2025

Location: Living Faith Church, Iyesi

Dress code: A heart ready to receive.

Friend, as e shock you, na so e shock me too.

*uttermost disbelief

“No be cross over night you Dey invite me come so? Them don Dey share food for cross over”

“Yes, this one is ‘feed yourself’”

I looked at my friend in disgust! But honestly? There was no way I could reject her invitation.

“The invitation is two actually”, my friend continued, “December 31st, and January 1st”

“I’m aware it’s a cross over, woman. I know I’ll be there even January first. Just stop talking” I added

“It is what you serve yourself December 31st that you will eat January 1st”. She concluded.

JANUARY FIRST—

New year new me! 2026 is my year! My year of financial open doors! (That year don remain 4 months)

I had plans. Yes. My heart was truly ready for the year. I’ll do more. Become more. Overall, I’ll GROWWW. Atleast, for the first few days I forgot euphoria don’t last long.

February had a way that made me feel like there was still time. Wasn’t there?

“Just rest a little, after all you’re not competing with anybody, you’ll catch up okay?”

Lies from the pit of hell.

Maybe if I had prepared throughly, March wouldn’t have matched me the way it did. First quarter Izz gone. OT-LAW.

My birthday in April just didn’t feel like it, because who approved this age I just turned.

Objection my Lord! I don’t remember consenting. I’ve still not admitted it emotionally! Didn’t I just celebrate 9 years in primary 5? When I took this Spicy fish biscuit to share for my classmates? How did I get here?

I encouraged myself again. I shouldn’t stay down, is it not? Maybe if January and February didn’t match, April May. I buckled my shoe, and continued moving. Those kind of shoe wey them Dey use jump into conclusions.

June? Toor

Six months of January's plans, February's optimism, March's reality, April's questions and May's survival.

“Okay. We still have six months.”

So I told myself I'd do better..

You can plan your year, and then life clears its throat and says,

“That's cute.” And watch you do your bulala.

JULY.

I meant it this time. I’ll do better. I’ll put structures in place. I’ll make me proud. I’ll do this and that better. And somehow, I used the whole of July for pep talk.

Then, I had a visitor. It only came on the 8th month, and as the 8th month. No hello. No smiles. Nothing.

It just stood there. I knew the question on its mind it wanted to ask. I could almost hear it.

I could feel August opening its mouth.

And before it could say a word, I shunned it.

August, please don't ask me what I've achieved. 😒

I know I haven’t done everything I said I’ll do. I know. I know I’ve told myself many lies just to pass time. I know. And honestly, I’m not happy either.

But you know one thing I also know?

I know I survived. I made it through months o couldn’t navigate.

If only you wouldn’t ask me what I’ve achieved, but ask me who I’ve become, how I’ve managed to go through hard times without breaking. How I’ve been able to watch people go while still staying sane…. that’ll be better.

I may not have eaten the year exactly as I planned. But I ate. I ATE! (I left some crumbs tho😞)

I survived. Maybe for now, that’s enough.

At the end of the month, we give out prizes in 3 categories: Best Content, Top Engagers and
Most Engaged Content.
Best Content
Top Engagers
Most Engaged Content
Best Content
We give out cash prizes to between 7 and 20 community members with the best insights in the past month.
The winners are picked by an in-house selection process.
The winners are NOT picked from the leaderboards/rankings, we choose winners based on the quality, originality
and insightfulness of their content.
Here are a few other things to know for the Best Content track
1
Quality over Quantity — You stand a higher chance of winning by publishing a few really good insights across the entire month,
rather than a lot of low-quality, spammy posts.
2
Share original, authentic, and engaging content that clearly reflects your voice, thoughts, and opinions.
3
Avoid using AI to generate content—use it instead to correct grammar, improve flow, enhance structure, and boost clarity.
4
Explore audio content—high-quality audio insights can significantly boost your chances of standing out.
5
Use eye-catching cover images—if your content doesn't attract attention, it's less likely to be read or engaged with.
6
Share your content in your social circles to build engagement around it.
