There's a certain kind of lie we all tell ourselves as young adults.

"I can never do that."

You know the one. "I will never smoke, I will never set my office on fire if they frustrate me, I will never use my life savings to buy iPhone 17."

But then life starts 'lifing'.

Bills show up. Pressure begins to mount. Everybody on your timeline is suddenly "closing deals" and "moving with wins," and you're there, moving with no results. You're probably on your way to buy peak milk to make the stellar Garri, and your friend is flying to Bali with her husband.

And before you know it, the sentence changes from "I can never do that" to "well… it depends."

That's the energy my first thriller book brings. In The Get-together: Whodunit, the main character, Joseph, just wanted a soft life evening to reconnect with friends after COVID-19, maybe finally move out of the friend zone with his best friend, eat small chops, and sleep.

Normal things. Normal reunion plans, but then, what happens when a dead body suddenly drops?

Ghen-Ghen.

Imagine this situation;

1. There is a killer.

2. Nobody knows who it is.

3. You're locked in that house.

4. People are finding out each other's secrets.

Even the girl of your dreams is now looking a bit questionable. You're not seeing her slim waist anymore, but the gun in her hands. Then you tell yourself, "Love will have to wait, my brother. Survival first."

But beyond the drama and the "who is the killer" tension, the real gist lies in the pressure we feel as young adults. The pressure to make it, to be used as an example when people are talking about epic goals.

And when that pressure mixes with opportunity… or desperation… or the wrong set of people… things may not seem harmless anymore. Because let's be honest, the idea of doing "anything" to make it doesn't always start with something extreme. It starts small. A compromise here. A shortcut there.

A "just this once" decision.

Next thing, you're in a situation you can't easily explain, surrounded by people you don't fully trust, making choices that don't even sound like you anymore.

And that's what makes this story real.

May we never find ourselves in the house of a killer, or be in rooms where everyone is pretending, and nobody is fully honest, and most importantly, may we continue to hold on and look forward to the betterment of our lives.

I have a picture in my head of how big I am going to make it; if that picture isn't constantly in my mind, let me tell you that the long golden pole at that bar, or that black market to sell my kidney, won't be bad, oh.

Na joke oh. I'm joking.

But yes, it's one thing to say you want to make it. It's another thing to decide what you're willing to become in the process.

Also, small advice, if you ever go to a party and a dead body shows up? Face front, find the nearest exit, and remember your village people are at work.

To buy my book, head to this link. selar.com/m/Toyin_od

Have the most amazing weekend, but not without this book.
