MAYBE WE WERE NEVER MEANT TO DATE, MAYBE WE STILL WILL🙃

I had a crush on her about eight years ago. We were young then, maybe fourteen or fifteen. She was even younger, but somehow had the body of someone older, so I thought I was doing something serious. 😂 But honestly, there was nothing behind it. No hidden intention. No pressure. I just genuinely liked her. It was that innocent kind of love where seeing someone could make your whole day feel slightly better.

She was scared to accept me. Her reason was simple: I was going to enter school, and she thought I would forget her. I understood her fear. I was two classes ahead of her, after all. So I told her, “Who knows if you will gain admission before me?” Funny. She actually did. Not just before me, but into my dream school. Life has a strange way of turning our jokes into prophecies.

We loved each other then, sha. At least, in the way young people understand love. But somewhere along the way, we grew up. The feeling changed. It is still there, but not the kind that makes your heart stumble whenever you see her. It became something quieter. Something more mature.

And looking back now, I am actually glad she didn't accept me. I am glad we never dated. I am glad we never crossed any line beyond those innocent hugs and the friendship that somehow survived all these years. Because maybe if we had dated, we would not be friends today. Maybe we would have broken up, picked sides, involved friends, carried awkwardness into every room, and eventually become two people who once knew each other too well.

But we didn't. We remained friends. And sometimes, I think that is the better love story. Not every person you love is supposed to become your partner. Some people become memories. Some become lessons. And some, if you are lucky, become friends you get to keep.

So yes, I once had a crush on her. She didn't accept me. She entered my dream school before me. We both grew up. The love changed. And somehow, through all of it, the friendship stayed.

Maybe that was the love we were supposed to have all along.

Catalyst ✍️
