The Lease on Eden

I thought I had finally found a place for my soul to rest.

But out of sheer fear of losing it, I buried it alive.

I tasted love, and I knew peace, until my own people tore them away.

Still, I tried to rebuild among the ruins, forgetting that apologies are not medicine for scars.

In the end, I only damaged us both.

Now I wander carrying the broken pieces of a beautiful Eden.

And I cannot heal, because I poured my entire self into its foundation — my strength, my time, my youth.

For a moment, we spoke the same language of love.

Just for a moment.

But my everything was never enough.

What a cruel awakening: this was never meant to be your home to keep.

It was only ever rented.

And now, the lease is up.
