Let me tell you about Amara.

For years, Amara believed she was simply unlucky.

Every time she trusted someone, they disappointed her.

Every time she opened her heart, somehow, she ended up hurt.

Every time she started something new, it seemed to fall apart just when she was beginning to believe in it.

And because it kept happening, she started blaming life.

“Maybe good things just aren’t meant for me,” she would whisper to herself.

Her best friend, Nneka, noticed it too.

One evening, after watching Amara cry over yet another person who had treated her badly, Nneka finally asked:

“Amara… have you ever wondered why the same kind of people keep entering your life?”

Amara looked at her angrily.

“So now you’re blaming me for what people do to me?”

“No,” Nneka replied quietly. “I’m asking you to look at the pattern.”

That word stayed with Amara.

Pattern.

That night, she opened her old journal.

She started writing down every person who had hurt her.

The first one.

The second.

The third.

Then the fourth.

She looked at their names for a long time.

And suddenly, something made her stomach drop.

They were different people.

Different faces.

Different personalities.

Different stories.

But the beginning was always the same.

She ignored the red flags.

She gave too many chances.

She confused attention with genuine care.

She stayed long after she knew she should leave.

And worst of all…

she kept choosing what felt familiar instead of what was actually good for her.

Amara put the pen down.

For the first time, she didn’t cry.

She just stared at the page.

Then she whispered:

“Maybe it wasn’t bad luck.”

She took a deep breath.

“Maybe it was a pattern.”

And that night, Amara made a decision.

She wasn’t going to become cold.

She wasn’t going to stop loving.

She wasn’t going to blame everyone.

She was simply going to start observing before attaching herself.

Because sometimes, life isn’t punishing you.

Sometimes, it’s repeating the lesson until you finally notice it.

And Amara had just noticed hers.
