A letter from a broken eye

---

A Letter from a Broken Eye

To the one who owns me,

I wasn’t always like this.

I remember when light danced through me freely—when I blinked with wonder at sunrises, smiled at soft faces, and widened in awe at fireworks bursting like dreams across the sky.

But somewhere along the way… I cracked.

Not all at once. No, pain is patient. First came the nights I stayed open too long, waiting for someone who never looked back. Then the tears—the ones you tried to blink away in silence, so no one would notice. But I noticed. I always noticed.

You used to protect me. Now, you hide behind me.

I’ve seen everything. The lies you believed. The love you gave that was never returned. The quiet suffering. I’ve blurred and burned from holding back what your lips couldn’t say. I’ve watched you stare at the mirror, hoping to see strength when all you felt was small.

And yet… you still carry me.

Even broken, I see beauty. In the way you keep walking, even when the road is cracked. In the way you smile at strangers, even with a storm behind your gaze. In the way you cry—and still dare to hope.

So here I am: cracked, tired, and clouded—but still yours.

Let the world see me not as damaged, but as a witness. A witness to everything you’ve survived.

And when people ask why you look different… tell them your eye once broke—but your vision never did.

Still looking,

Still believing,

—Your Broken Eye
