DAY 2 OF THE WEEK - LONG CHALLENGE

In my last post, I mentioned and explained some challenges encountering and hindering world peace and cooperation, as highlighted by Prof. Olurotimi Timeyin. These challenges are dynamic in nature and affect local, national, and international peace. However, the possible solutions to address and suppress these challenges will be explained in this insight. After outlining the problems and challenges of world peace, Prof. Olurotimi Timeyin proposed some solutions from a Sufism perspective, rooted in the Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet (peace be upon him). One of the major solutions to the challenges facing world peace, according to him, is REMEMBRANCE OF ALLAH. He explained that the remembrance of Allah brings peace to the heart. As a result, peace starts from the heart and spreads to society and the world. When people remember Allah, they are able to control anger and hatred, which may lead to violence and injustice, and they develop patience and forgiveness. In Islam, it is believed that every action will be judged by Allah. Remembering and testifying to this fact will make individuals justify their actions, fear wrongdoing, respect human life, and avoid corruption. Undoubtedly, Islam and the Sunnah of the Prophet encourage forgiveness, reconciliation, and peaceful interactions. Therefore, a society that remembers Allah prefers peace over war. It is important to note that remembering Allah teaches humility, charity, and brotherhood, which reduce the causes of conflict and promote world peace. Humanity also serves as one of the solutions to the challenges of world peace. He stated that humanity promotes kindness, compassion, empathy, and moral responsibility toward one another. It represents the foundation of peaceful coexistence among individuals and nations. He emphasized humanity because it embodies the attributes of God. When we act with humanity, we will value human life, avoid violence and genocide, and respect human rights and dignity. Honestly, world peace cannot exist where there is extreme poverty, inequality, and injustice among the people, because people may engage in harmful activities to ensure their survival. Nevertheless, the presence of humanity will encourage fair distribution of resources, care for the poor, and social welfare. In this regard, avoidance and non-involvement in sins can also be a solution to world peace. Prof. Olurotimi Timeyin pointed out that injustice, corruption, violence, hatred, oppression, and dishonesty are sins that religion forbids. All these sins are major causes of conflict and instability. Therefore, avoiding them contributes to peace at national and global levels. Religion teaches that when we avoid sins among ourselves, trust increases, cooperation becomes easier, and international and social relations improve. To sum it up, the proposed solutions by Prof. Timeyin to the challenges facing world peace revolve around following the words of God and the path of His Messenger. I believe that through this, we will have a world filled with cooperation, peace, and harmony.
