It’s Not a Religious War” — A Deeper Look at the Israel-Gaza Conflict

Too often, people rush to frame the Israel-Gaza conflict as a battle between Jews and Muslims as though centuries of political, economic, and territorial tension can be boiled down to a religious disagreement. But this is not a holy war. It’s a war about land, power, displacement, and survival.

Yes, religion is deeply woven into both identities but the heart of this conflict is not about converting or destroying the other’s faith. It’s about who has the right to live where. It’s about generations of Palestinians who were born in exile, and Israelis who grew up fearing rockets overhead. It’s about statehood, blockades, borders, bombings, and broken ceasefires not scripture.

By calling it a “religious war,” people strip away the political accountability, the colonial history, and the very real human rights violations on both sides. They reduce civilians to symbols, and deaths to divine destiny.

The truth is more uncomfortable and more human: it’s a war driven by politics, not prophets.

So before we paint it with the broad brush of religion, let’s remember — both Muslims and Jews have lived peacefully together in many parts of the world. The war in Gaza is not God’s will. It’s man’s doing.
