LIFE OF A FUTURE DIPLOMAT (I GUESS) Type shii

Okay, hi.

My name is Nomshu, but most people here know me as Grace, and I’m a student of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Today, I want to talk about my course of study: International Studies and Diplomacy.

Now, don’t get me wrong it’s a good course. A very good one, actually. But sometimes I just sit down and ask myself, girl… why didn’t you go to fashion school? Because this course? Hmm. Sorrows. Tears. And academic stress.

International Studies is funny because from outside, it looks sexy. Diplomacy. Traveling the world. Being an ambassador. My classmates are very confident that we’ll all graduate and immediately become diplomats(CLOWNS🤡). I admire the optimism(JUST KIDDING). I really do. Reality, however, has not confirmed anything yet.

The course itself is important though. It teaches you how the world works why countries fight, why they cooperate, and why decisions made in one corner of the world can affect people who didn’t even ask for it. You learn how to think, argue, analyze, and see things from different angles. It’s not just about countries; it’s about people, power, and perception.

But let’s talk about the experience.

Imagine being in a class where you don’t really like most people, and deep down you know they don’t really like you either. The feeling is mutual. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone wants to be right. Every lecture feels like silent competition.

And for the next two years, I’ll still be walking into class every day, dressed well, sitting in front, looking good, and smiling fake smiles at my course mates because peace is important and vibes must be maintained.

Then there are the characters. Combined classes with political science students introduce you to people who just… stare. Like they’re analyzing you. There’s also this one girl I always see with a hairstyle that confuses me daily. It looks like a phoenix. Or an ostrich. I’m still not sure.

And of course, the moral police. A group of very nosy Christian girls who think anyone that dresses well or does their nails is somehow immoral. Jeans are apparently a crime. Meanwhile, the same people are wearing the tiniest skirts I’ve ever seen in my life. The irony? Insane.

But somehow, all of this makes sense. International Studies prepares you for this kind of environment. Different personalities, different beliefs, different contradictions all in one space. It teaches you how to survive, adapt, and still keep your sense of humor.

So yes, International Studies is stressful. It’s chaotic. It’s ironic. But it’s also real. And maybe that’s why it matters (IM FREAKING TIRED BUT GOD GIVE THE GRACE TO GRADUATE) TYPE SHII ✨.
