My second skin
<p>Like a second skin,</p><p>I carry my sadness.</p><p>Wherever I go,</p><p>It clings to me</p><p>like it's nothing,</p><p>but it’s everything.</p><p><br/></p><p>It tightens its grip</p><p>most in the morning,</p><p>when rays of sun</p><p>meant to bring warmth</p><p>bring fire.</p><p>Blazingly hot fire.</p><p>They don’t light the day</p><p>they scorch it.</p><p><br/></p><p>Every hope,</p><p>every plan,</p><p>every hint of happiness</p><p>burns before the day even begins.</p><p><br/></p><p>Everything burns</p><p>except my second skin</p><p>That clings to my flesh, like a leech.</p><p><br/></p><p>All my hopes for the day</p><p>reduced to ash,</p><p>floating above my sheets</p><p>like ghosts of things</p><p>that could’ve been.</p><p>The air is thick with my pain</p><p>Though silent but as resounding as can be</p><p><br/></p><p>Demons move around me</p><p>As if mocking my predicament </p><p>Studying me with as much interest as a master to his measly servant.</p><p><br/></p><p>Still, I don’t get up.</p><p>I don’t blink.</p><p>I don’t move.</p><p>I just breathe.</p><p>Because sometimes,</p><p>that’s the only way to live </p>
