Of Serpents And Maidens
<p>Perhaps it was the red of her dress,</p><p>or the glass of her skin.</p><p>Her jet-black hair,</p><p>or the smile—cleverly cut—</p><p>he swore could light a winter's eve.</p><p><br/></p><p>He held her close,</p><p>so near, so dear.</p><p>Within his heart,</p><p>he carved a place for her.</p><p>For never had sin looked so fair,</p><p>nor Deceit ever grinned from ear to ear.</p><p><br/></p><p>But in the dim gaze of her victims past,</p><p>a truer form was cast:</p><p>Cold and calculating,</p><p>shrewd and cunning—</p><p>a haunting creature,</p><p>born to maim.</p><p><br/></p><p>She slithers, she wrangles—</p><p>until you're left with bated breath.</p><p>Then come the fangs,</p><p>sinking deep,</p><p>filling you with her venom of despair.</p><p><br/></p><p>Hollow, you'll be.</p><p>Of yourself—</p><p>just a shell.</p>
